Re: Gulper Catfish

I had several gulpers rule of thumb for them ANY fish kept in same tank needs to be 3-4x larger length wise or at least 2x the width of mouth so a 4 inch gulper with a 2.5 inch wide mouth your fish needs to be 5 inches wide (not tall but wide) so it is IMPOSSIBLE for it to fit. Only down side to thi...

Re: salmon for Leporacanthicus

Deli shrimp will work but make sure to cut it up into small enough pieces as it whole they won't be able to swallow so they can choke or will most likely happen just suck on it and hide it till it gets a little rotten then eat it, not the best for them so if its still in there 15 minutes after feedi...

Re: salmon for Leporacanthicus

My large plecos (Mostly common browns) they eat the left over Spring and Coho that I feed my shovelnoises and Rtc, but I always use fresh, thankfully living in BC there are tons for me to catch or buy locally. Also Raw is WAY better as LOTS of nuts are lost when they boil the fish also releases oils...

Re: Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?

(This was in my 420g)I'm not sure how or when it started happening, I was away hunting for 2 months (while I was gone they were only feed meaty items g/fs choice ie shrimp worms crays) when I got home I didn't notice them at first but after a major cleaning I noticed that in a few buckets were some ...

Re: Zungaro Zungaro aggression - experience?

Updated response before but forgot to mention, I'm talking from Fry - 24 inches. I once made the mistake (was told it was best kept in packs) bought 5 of them (all 1.5-3 inches) that night NO joke I ONLY had 2 REALLY FAT guys left. Separated them to one got a tank with pleco to itself other went int...

Re: Zungaro Zungaro aggression - experience?

Hey I got some BAD NEWS for you Ive had these guys for SOME time. They can ONLY be kept with fish TWICE its own size otherwise they WILL ATTACK. They are EXTREMELY Territorial and cannibalistic, they only seem to tolerate same species (Cichlids, and Large Armor'd Catfish, but again if its twice its ...

Re: Pictus community tank

My Pictus tank mates are my Niger Catfish, Iwrin Cats, Raphels, Jaguars, False Jaguars, and a few sentry birchirs (G/f's). As for Plywood tanks I do think they are awesome if you build them right. I have 1 Plywood Epoxy tank(Custom 75) and 2 Plywood Fiberglass Tanks (250) (480). I do work at a few Y...

Re: URGENT ID - Auction and need decision on purchase

Even so, it would be on par with like pepper cories or bronze etc... SOO MANY and extremely common that it is never priced high. Even with US or Canada importing to NZ wouldn't cost that much / much time in quarantine at airport. I have shipped internationally so I do realize unless sending in bulk ...

Re: Pictus community tank

For Cats I ALWAYS go for biggest ground layout verses height of tank. A 90g of 48x24x18 is my common set up for under 5 inch cats (In my all SA tank I have 6 pictus currently). I would advise against planted tanks for any catfish with hevty barbs like these guys. Stick to SMOOTH River rocks / Masz w...

Re: New Mini monsters on the feed.

Nice guys, I've had one a few months now, awesome night time hunter, but be careful as they can get territorial and they are cannibalistic I had three and now I have one super large 7 incher.

Re: lima shovelnose feeding?

The few I had I started off on flakes but as soon as they were 2 inches they were on the Hikari sinking catfish pellets as soon as they became 6 inches they went straight to the Massivore Delite Sinking pellets it was basically all they ate, they would let floating food site till it would just cloud...
