Re: museum on the chopping block

In a time of tough finances, there is little surprise that museums would languish financially. It is a shame since they add so much to education to history and geology. I hope they can resolve the problems.

Re: Please help!!

Never heard of anything like that before. You could try Prazaquil or fenbendazole as they are very good. Flubendazole can just be added to your water as yet another option. Read and follow directions. Fenbedazole is used in dogs but works well in fish and humans. To use it, I dilute in water then ad...

Re: Hurricane- Lose any fish?

No power x 7 days. Losses minimal considering no power:

12 Bristlenose fry
3 Guppies
2 Silver Dollars

Came close to losing my Oscar and Disjunctivus. Added an airstone to the tank and ran it for about 4 - 6 hrs each day while generator was running. Seemed to be sufficient. The Oscar quit gasping.

Re: Is this sad or what?

As a person that fly fishes, I have never heard of "wippit" but do understand "whip it". On a fly reel from the reel out, you have "backing", "flyline", "leader", and then the "tippet". Flyline is weighted by whole number such as 5, 6, 7, 8...

I have multiple tanks and don't see it being feasible to monitor each one. However, it does seem like a good idea for a single high-value tank.

Re: Any avid fisherman present?

I fish as much as possible and have for many years. It got to the point where a friend of mine asked me to run his fishing store while he would go on vacation or take a day off. While working, I would have a pole hanging out the back window! I have had a passion for fish and fishing as long as I can...

Not trying to hijack your thread. Just wanted to say that I have been buying from Ken's for several years and I find my fish to be happy campers with the food. I have a an Oscar that is a very fussy eater and as soon as I switched to Ken's he latched onto the food without hesitation. He also seems t...

Re: Hikari

Sorry to hear as my fish seem to have a preference for Hikari products. However, since they have a varied diet they are not stuck on a single manufacturer. For ones fish to starve to death because they didn't get their preferred food just doesn't sound right. I have a hard time believing that to be ...

Came from a really dumb occurrence. I was shopping in a LFS that I did a lot of business with and I corrected what a clerk was trying to tell me. I said, "Excuse me, but this is what I understand to be the correct information. . . . ." The manager and I were good friends and one day he tol...

Re: Did we descend from an electric fish?

Considering that electricity drives our nervous system as well as the nervous system of most living things, I sort of doubt that there is any singular answer as to how we evolved. When you try to make a leap from one species to another in the evolution chain, you can find enough "evidence"...

Too bad I don't live closer, I would love an opportunity to breed them.! I have a 125 (6 adult Silver Dollars) and a 150(72x24x?? empty) that would let them have a peaceful life. You are correct about my limited knowledge in regards to proactive treatment.

In regards to my statement about kinked spines, I tried not to imply that it could be cured or repaired. To my knowledge it can't. I tried to state that diet can have a huge impact on it.

Re: Is it possible to diagnose fish tuberculosis?

Kinked spines is not indicative of age but of illness. Poor diets and bad genes can also cause this to appear. I would make every attempt to ensure the water wasn't harboring bad bacteria and that diet was varied enough to preclude this from happening. Because it can be caused by so many different r...

In the American retail trade, you will often find that the breakdown of a shipment is in items and pieces. Such as 10 pieces per item. It is used to indicate a sub-portion (Pieces) of a whole(Item). An inventory would read "Item number 7, consisting of 3 bags of fish, each containing 10 pieces,...
