They are not the same kind of pleco, as the body shapes are different, the spots on the first one are much larger than the second one & the first one has much darker black body, as where the second sometimes has light patches like in the pic. If I can get a pic of the top of them I will post it....

Wow, look what I started..lol. This is very informitive indeed & sometimes confusing. The L# used in the hobby for selling I believe is used for simplicity more than $ as it is easier to remember the L# of a pleco rather than the scientific name. You certanly can not go by the common name people...
