Well, unfortunately it's too late. I should have taken my Chinese Algae Eater out of the tank asap. I woke up this morning and my Boesmani Rainbow that I've had for about 7 months now had a big bite taken out of it's back, and hiw fins were chewed up. He is obviously dead now. :(

Also, the trouble I'm having with lots of plants is, it's difficult to use a gravel vacuum without hitting the stems of plants and harming them.. Is there a good happy medium to choose as far as amount of gravel goes for a planted ...

Ok thanks so much Ian. It definately looks like he's an agassizii now. I don't think it can be a c74, because the dots on the side of my fish are too small and defined, more like the picture of the delphax.

He definately doesn't have the bump on his head like c74 though.

I have a new 50 gallon tank, I bought it off a friend. The gravel is a hefty 3 to 3 1/2 inches think. I know this can be unhealthy for the fish, as food can get caught in there and rot, causing water problems. I would love to remove a bunch of gravel and get it down to about 1/2 an inch or even ...

So, if it's not julii or trilineatus, then what are the differnces between agassizii and delphax?

Is it mostly the larger black spot on the dorsal fin that makes it a delphax?

Naw, I don't think it could be an agassizii or delphax. Neither of those species have marks on their heads, or the large black spot in the dorsal fin..

Not sure which one I have. I'm pretty sure it's a trilineatus, but it seems that all websites have different info and mixed pictures of the two species.

Also, if you can determine a sex I'd appreciate it too. :)

Thanks a bunch. Mine is definately a Chinese Algae Eater (Gyrinocheilus aymonieri).
It's the only one out of these fish that all look alike, that does not have barbells.
The horizontal stripe is uneven as well, most other types have a fairly smooth or zig-zagged stripe.
