Re: Otocinclus ID
Thanks Darrel. The one on the picture has a continuous black line that joins the caudal blotch. The colour/pattern of the back above the lateral stripe is spotted. I can't figure what I have. The Otocinclus hoppei's black line finishes before it reaches the caudal blotch. Otocinclus macrospilus has ...

Otocinclus ID
Hi everyone. I was always wondering what species my otocunclus are. The only reason I am asking is that I only recently noticed some minor differences between my ottos and it seems I may have gotten different kinds accidentally. Here is one of them below: http://imageshack.us/a/img208/2812/dscf1646....

Re: Best sand for Cory's immediately available in London UK.
It's probably too late but if you are talking about the normal size flourite, then it will eventually come out on top of the sand, and it isn't very smooth either but I haven't used it to be certain if it would affect corys in any way. But it's good for a planted tank as it's clay based and it will ...

Re: Peppers and Green Corys
I have a 80-90G tank with a U4 filter(1000L/H), an external 2000L/H, a trickle filter 900L/H and a powerhead 2800L/H, all in the same tank and the corys don't mind one bit. However, I wouldn't direct the flow hitting the bottom straight so it blows their food away too fast, it needs to bounce off th...

Re: Cory identification needed. Thank you in advance.
To be further annoying, I found a shop that is selling these corys, labelled as "melanistuis" as seen in the picture. http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/4820/aqualcmelanistus.jpg Looking at the picture, it looks like my cory but then again there are so many similar types I get confused. Is...

Re: Cory identification needed. Thank you in advance.
I contacted the shop again. They'll try to get some C.142's for me :d Hopefully they can. The poor cory is so lonely in a tank full of corys. My albinos and lasers try to nudge him sometimes. I've seen them taking turns just "sniffing" his/her belly(not a T position) but he won't play with...

Re: Cory identification needed. Thank you in advance.
P.S
The shop where I got this one doesn't know where it came from. They said it came as a contaminant. I failed to ask at the time what other stock it came with. They gave it to me for free because of it's poor condition, being nipped to death in one of their tanks with barbs.

Re: Cory identification needed. Thank you in advance.
Thanks a million Ian!!!
The C142 looks exactly like my cory.
Now the question is where do I find more of these here... I already asked a shop if they can source some brevirostris for me. I need to contact them again.

Re: Best sand for Cory's immediately available in London UK.
Yes, it's a bacterial infection of some sort in my case too, but triggered by changing the substrate to JBL sansibar black. It's just anecdotal of course, but who knows. Better safe than sorry for someone else considering this sand. Esha 2000 won't and the barbels won't grow back !!!) That's really ...

Re: Best sand for Cory's immediately available in London UK.
I have JBL black sansibar sand Oh, gosh. Exactly same thing happened to me. Look at an earlier thread "Sick Corys, nothing helps". I changed to JBL sansibar black and 2 months after I noticed corys with missing barbels and other complications too. I wonder if after all this sand was the c...

Re: Cory identification needed. Thank you in advance.
Thanks kamas. I was just about to post some examples from planetcatfish that were confusing. I came across the short snout meaning of "C. brevirostris" and mine has quite a round one so it can't be a melanistius I suppose? So I should try finding some brevirostris friends for her/him? I ca...

Re: Cory identification needed. Thank you in advance.
Here is a better veiw of the tail. What do you think, is it a male or a female? I call it him, because his belly never got rounded like my albino and laser females. One laser female is visible in the background in the first picture above.

Re: Cory identification needed. Thank you in advance.
A bit of a late update on the cory but I haven't had time for him unfortunately. I think it is melanistius. Here he is more than 3 months later below. Would please confirm what type he is, so I can try to find him some friends, although it doesn't look like it's going to be easy. http://img834.image...

Re: Black schultzei with gold flash schultzei?
Since no one answered, I will. My bronze albino corys and my gold lasers decided one day that they are in love with each other and produced hybrids that are very healthy and grew up faster than their non-mixed siblings. The hybrids look something in between a bronze and a laser cory, almost like a g...

Re: concolor disease?
I have no idea, but an antiobiotic(seachem kanaplex), antifungal meds(interpret N.8) and Tetra General Tonic didn't help in my case. It grows between between the dorsal and the body of the fish and its not part of the fin itself, just kind of hanging. I suspect its a bacterial infection of some sort...

Re: concolor disease?
Can you get a picture?
My picture isn't really showing what was in reallity.
The white stuff was tear shaped and very smooth, detached from the dorsal fin itself. It was like a bump/growth, not like fungus eating the fin. My camera just couldn't focus, so it came out blurry and like part of the fin.

The adult corys I am referring to are in a 370 litre tank minus substrate and decor, I think around 330 litre. I have 13 of them, 6 laser corys and 7 albino( I have a single melanistius cory too which I saved from demise but can't find him friends yet). They live together at the moment with clown lo...

Re: Sick corys, nothing helps
Hi, thanks for asking Coriequest. It's probably early to tell about the barbels but the white growths have completely disappeared which is the best result so far. I observe them at feeding time to see if anything "new" would appear. I stopped the "chlorine" baths about the time I...

Re: Breeding Bronze Corydoras - tips and tricks
With my albino and gold laser corys I have found out that there's nothing special needed to trigger them to breed. Mine normally spawn once a week, or once every two weeks constantly. I can't even notice seasonal change or anything. The maintenance is 50% water change weekly with temperature matched...

Re: Sick corys, nothing helps
I've done so many water changes on that tank, so there's nothing floating at all. Water is crystal clear during and after. But I'll take all those suggestions into consideration for my next tank. It's empty at the moment, just running filters but I intend to set it up with mineralized top soil, capp...

Re: Sick corys, nothing helps
That's interesting. I think it makes a lot of sense about establishing the right activities in the substrate. My current sand isn't the finest. It has different sizes ranging to 1mm. But for my next tank I was trying to find a slightly larger 1-2mm sand myself in order to provide more oxygenated con...

I have several giant almond leaves in the tank, driftwood, amazon swords and anubias, over sand, so it isn't that bad. It's interesting that you say you never vacuum the substrate. I have at least 50 corys spread around several tanks and although I am not an expert and still learning, I've always ma...

Re: Sick corys, nothing helps
Thanks Papwalker. I realize that. I'll keep an eye on this but so far the filter bacteria the least is coping. The level of free chlorine in the tap water according to the local report is 0.3ppm. It should be less devastating than if I put certain medication, as the chlorine will just evaporate. I a...
