Re: C.Sterbai info

You should have very few losses if 1. water quality is very good(monitor your ph as lots of food, leads to lots of nitrification, leads to a kh drop, leads to a ph drop, then one starts doing water changes, Ph swings back up, another shock, leads to corys gasping at the surface, death, barbell erosi...

Re: Salt vs Cory

Yes, the cory was fine at a certain salt concentration. That's about how much I can tell from my experience however the balance is thin so I would use caution and if you see the corys staying still, not eating, breathing difficulties, not moving much I'd jump and do a water change and gradually take...

Re: Salt vs Cory

I am bringing up an old thread here. I recently had to treat a tank with salt for the first time because of ich a new clown loach brought.....or so I thought... because I never saw a white spot. Panda corys at salt concentration of 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of water will die a miserable death I fou...

Re: Corydoras aeneus lifespan?

Thanks Karsten.

Anyone with long term aeneus experience? I would just like to know as I have quite a few of them and it got me thinking planning for the future. There isn't much info you can come across googling this topic.

Corydoras aeneus lifespan?

What is the lifespan of corydoras aeneus?
Different websites are giving different information. One says 5 years, up to 8 years in ideal conditions, the other 10-15 and another 20-25 years.
Planetcatfish doesn't say anything at all.

Re: Looking for help, please

Today it just crossed my mind about water splashing on the surface. I keep my two bunches of corys in large tanks which are well overfiltered but they are open top, meaning the water evaporates quite fast each week and just before a water change the spraybars are actually splashing at the water surf...

OK. Fair enough. I understand. I am glad you found a method that works for you. I've done a similar thing before, that's why I don't really like this sort of method I left mine once for a few months without water changes(heavily planted low tech tank). They didn't spawn for the entire low quality wa...

Re: How long to fast cory catfish

I am not an expert. I've kept cory's for over 5 years. My first bunch is still alive and has always spawned without any intervention and is still spawning. The others are just 2-3 years old. They've never been been fasted and they've always had as good quality food as I can afford. The food I feed a...

Having said that, among animals interspecific hybrids are often sterile (a phenomenon called "decreased hybrid fertility" -- it may seem counterintuitive given the enhanced vigorous growth, but just consider mules), or their fertility can decline over a couple of generations if they do su...

The 4 eggs all appear viable. It's been about 2 days. From previous experience it takes 3 days for them to hatch. Here's a pic of one of the eggs right now. I added some sand in the breeder box to have it ready in case they hatch. http://i1347.photobucket.com/albums/p706/Snezz/CoryEgg_zpsaw8mujo3.jpg

They'd rather be with their own species to be honest. But if you are really stuck other species will do, better with more corys of any type than just the two. I have a lonely cory which I actually saved from being nipped to death in the fish shop. I could never find the same species again as it turn...

Congratulations!!
I wish mine got survivors. I've never had any baby corys pop up out of nowhere. I barely get eggs surviving 10minutes in the tanks, had to sit today stuck to the tank and herd the fish away so I could grab some eggs and then I squished most by accident in the end.

I managed to grab 3-4 eggs today from one of the "hybrid" females before they got eaten. I am not sure who the daddy is though, could be an albino or a hybrid. Anyway, I have them in a breeder box, we'll see. They might not be viable but I want to see if they can produce a viable offspring...

I can only give advice about the sterbai. I have 3 sterbai, and a big bunch of aeneus corys. The sterbai don't spawn on the glass. They used to love to spawn on the floating plants I had some time ago. It was impossible to find the eggs when they spawned in the floaters but it was funny watching how...

Re: Sump Corys

I wouldn't worry about the current at all as long as some food stays at the bottom and doesn't float all around the place, and as you say the water quality will be fine. However, in my experience corys are really skittish in a small tank. When I kept some in a 15G tank, they were really stressing ou...

I never fasted any of my corys, not for a day unless I forgot to feed them. I think they've been doing fine for years. Why fast them? P.S. The corys are better off in a school of their own kind, not one of each They are social fish, like the company of their own kind and different species of corys m...

Yes, I agree with the flow. Mine live in high flow naturally and spawn regularly. In one tank I had very high flow over 20x including a large powerhead, the corys kept trying to lay eggs on the sides of the powerhead until I had it. They loved that spot. The babies need access to the surface from ge...

I couldn't get your answer. Do you mean the ones you bought in petsmart crossed with the Shultz and produced hybrids or they were hybrids themselves, and don't spawn? Mine certainly spawn. Re: Sexing my CW051's

My best way to sex any corys is to look at them when resting on the sand. Males tend to lie flat on it from top to tail. Their bottom/belly touches the sand all along. Females, eggs or no eggs, have a curve and the area near the head and tail are detached from the substrate. To be more precise, male...

I've raised mine without problems on baby powdered food. Is the betta living with the corys? What meds have you tried so far in the tank with corys? If you are using Kanaplex for finrot on the Betta, it won't work because it's not a med for finrot, it's more for internal bacterial infections. As for bloodworms causing nitrates, it's not the nitrates the p...
