Brachyplatystoma juruense pic and supplements

I've recently acquired a really nice example of Brachyplatystoma juruense and was able to capture this really nice image of it. I'd like to submit this for consideration into the Cat-E-Log entry for juruense. I'll be willing to submit pictures of this fish as it grows as well. https://www.monsterfis...

May be you should be ;) ... and keep your priorities straights, Rob :) I feel ya my man. Other priorities have to come first though. When I got out of the Army thanks to the recent drawdown, I found it impossible to find a job that matched my pay with only half of a degree. I have to make up for th...

Did we ever come to a consensus on what your other goonch is? I can't remember if we did. :/

Ah, I see. With the pictures of the fry not showing up, the point of the post was somewhat lost. I don't have a TBAS account so I can't log in.

That would be of great interest to me! I have a lot of ideas that I'd love to get out into the community. This would be a great format to contribute to the common knowledge of our hobby. :)

Re: Florida Brown Bullhead

I'm not exactly sure what solution you're trying to find. The pics linked from TBAS don't work for me because I'm not a member there so I may be missing the meat and potatoes of the thread. Are we trying to identify the fry in the pond owner's pond? If so, the best bet would be to get a pic of the f...

Re: Ameiurus serracanthus needs to be sorted

Shane, Please hold off on submitting anything to Jools. I live in NE Florida so I have the ability to collect and photograph both A. serracanthus and A. n. cf. marmoratus for proper diagnostic illustrations, both in tank and in the field. I am in the process of getting a 365 gallon tank up and runni...

Spotted Bullhead article has lots of issues w/ pics

Moderator note: I've updated this post on 2020-10-17 to fix broken links (at https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/) to the catfishes mentioned. That said, the new photos displayed cannot be the same as the original pics in the OP, since the fish in these photos were collected after the post was made. ...

Re: Dwarf goonch

Feeders are potentially problematic as all sorts of diseases could be present without manifesting themselves. Have you tried earthworms ( night crawlers) my bagarius used to really take them aggressively Indeed. I've yet to have a fish that won't take worms. Earthworms are actually higher in protei...

Re: Dwarf goonch

First time I've measured him since I obtained him almost 2 months ago at 7 inches. He's now 7.5 inches. The biggest difference would have to be how much longer his barbels have gotten. Mine seems to be fairly slow growing as well. I got her in March at 6-7" and at most, she's MAYBE 10" no...

Re: Dwarf goonch

It truly is difficult and somewhat frustrating to think how when ordering one of these species your never intirely sure of what your getting. We really aren't terribly sure of the max size of our goonch from Thailand. But anyway I had a question I was hoping you could answer or at least give your i...

Re: Dwarf goonch

I've never heard of the ones coming from India being dwarves, however some sellers still label them that way. Does anyone know somebody who has owned a bagarius that only reached 8 inches in length after several years? I heard of one account on MFK but it was anecdotal. He had one picture and a sto...

Tyty13 wrote:After comparing all of them side by side, like you I see no major differences at all. So this would mean its a good chance that most 'dwarf goonches' from Thailand are actually rutilus. Right? :-\

Re: Dwarf goonch

Yes we're on the wrong page here... Ok so when you say rutilus I picture this. Do you think that ours will end up looking similar to this. Ours already look just like tiny versions of that. They look exactly the same, just smaller. I took the liberty of running the image you attached through photos...

Shot you a PM about the email, Jools. I see that my rutilus pics aren't working for some reason. I'll be sure to get you some good ones in the email. An interesting point to note at this juncture is that if my supposition about the 'dwarf' goonches being juvenile rutilus is correct, the Ben Lee's pi...

Re: Dwarf goonch

Ok that leaves me with this. I've seen pictures of rutilus specimens 26inches... And some say they get even bigger. Do you think the way yours looks now is how it's going to stay, or do u think its appearance is still changing As it grows its proportions will change somewhat I believe, as all fish ...

Re: Dwarf goonch

Such as a the dorsal should become taller and the pectoral should have the tentacle extending off them. I think you're really over thinking this. Your fish is built like it is because it's tiny. It's a baby. As he grows, he'll thicken up and will appear more squat like mine. Things like fin tentacl...

Re: Dwarf goonch

While at 6" it was pretty spot on for what we consider a 'dwarf', it is now 10" and perfectly matches the description for rutilus, right down to the distinctive orange fins. I actually owe Jools some pictures but forgot until now. I'll have to get that email sent off. Sorry Jools, been bus...

I'm about 99% certain yours is the same thing as mine, which means that it would be a Thai strain. The color and pattern is exactly the same as mine was when I first got her. The similarity is striking, the only difference is that mine was a bit thicker. I'd imagine that given enough time, yours wil...
