Okay, that's a bust :( Net got dislodged slightly in the night and the eggs are no more.
But in a random twist, my gold barbs were spawning like crazy this morning and when I was lifting the net out, I noticed eggs on the outside of it. Net inverted and repositioned (more securely now as it can sit ...

Re: Hoplo nest!
Waiting on hatching now :D Papa hoplo is useless - stopped maintaining or guarding the nest not long after I took that pic, and all the bubbles were gone by the next day! I've rigged up a trap with a large, fine grade net and some cable ties, and raised the water level to keep the eggs wet. Looks ...

Hoplo nest!
So my guys have surprised me again and despite a massive tank change recently - from a somewhat undermaintained 30g to my new 100g - they have produced a foot long bubblenest and populated it over the last two nights! Eggs were all laid last night so I've got a definite start date, as it were.

Re: tips for asian bumble bee cats
I would put them in the bigger tank with the bigger fish, and be aware that the bigger the get, the bigger the fish they can take on! I've just moved a 6" one on because he'd killed several adult gold barbs and two full grown spotted hoplos. He was a bit of a rogue I think but I wouldn't take ...

Coolwater algae eaters?
I'm on the lookout for algae eaters that are happy around the 20-22C temp range, as I don't heat my tanks most of the year (I do in winter to keep them stable but that's it). Wood and rocks, play sand substrate, no live plants. The tank is 30g so nothing bigger than around 6" TL (although I may add ...

Re: Any thoughts on an ID?
Hmm, could be a pardalis, looking at some of the juvenile pics on here. Definitely not a gibbi though. I've not seen a pardalis with this colouration before, all the juvies round here are the typical dark grey colour even at a couple of inches long, and this fish is likely to have come from ...

Any thoughts on an ID?
I've just fetched this little fellow home and I'm a bit stumped!
He's about 6" long at the moment but very skinny so possibly stunted. When I let him out into the tank, He held his dorsal fin up for just a moment and I think there was a tinge of red along the top of it, and I can see a faint hint ...

Recommendation for a plec?
Hello :)
I have just bought a new big tank, 72" x 21"D x 18"H. I have bristlenoses currently but when I get the big one set up, I would like to change to a single larger type.
The tank will be unheated most of the year (heater for winter to keep it stable but that's it) and the temp stays at 21 ...

Port hoplos - temp and growth rate?
I've got half a dozen juvenile port hoplos, in a 32" tank at present.
I've had them before but we're going back a good few years and my last ones were larger when I got them, so my first question is roughly how fast do they grow from small? My guys are all 1.5-1.75" (look like they've come from a ...
