Re: L204 Sexing

These are supposedly tricky to breed, so I think most are wild collected. The males seem to be much easier to catch (as they roam and patrol their territory), so I'm not surprised folks are ID'ing these as males. I got 4 from someone who personally collected them in Peru; not surprisingly all males...

Re: L204 Sexing

If you haven't already done so, I recommend that you read the Catfish of the Month article on L204 ( here ) and the Shane's World article about spawning L204 ( here ). There are also two breeding logs recorded for this species on its CLOG page ( here ) that are worth looking at. That's a beautiful ...

Re: L204 Sexing

This could very well be possible. Maybe the larger of the two is more dominant??? These fish aren't really in my area of expertise. I have only recently begun thoroughly looking into them. From reading the breeding reports and looking at several pairs of them though, I have found that even some of t...

Re: ID on my L028-L036

You are right about L036, I had no clue where I got that from. I thought I remembered that # for some reason. I haven't done any research into this fish for quite some time, as I never had any helpful feedback until now. I tried searching through the Pseudancistrus through the Cat-elog but nothing s...

Thanks for the reply Jools, I will be sure to take some better pictures when i get the chance tomorrow. She is very reclusive and rarely ventures far from her cave during the day. I didn't know of any L028-L036 "Angelicus" (Closest match I have found so far) that were Pseudancistrus?

ID on my L028-L036

Hey there PC people! Hopefully someone can help me to get a positive ID on this pleco. I have had her (I presume F) for about 4 years now and have not been able to find another since. She came in with a shipment of WC Rio Tacantins Bristlenose Plecs (Sorry, don't know the L#) I knew that she was obv...

L204 Sexing

Hey there PC people! Today I come to you again for aid in sexing a beautiful couple of L204 Flash Plecos. Pictures were quite a pain to get with my better camera, but I did snag a few. More pictures can be provided in due time. I would like to let them settle into their new tank before I drag them o...

Re: Recommendation for a plec?

Hi there! With the specifications to the tank you are planning to populate, there are hundreds of options you could have. I think it may be easier to see what is available to you in your area, or even online first off. After searching and finding a larger species you like, try and do some in depth r...

Re: mixing plecos

Hi there! I had always loved the idea of an all pleco tank. I used a 125 G 6' tank. The inhabitants were L240 at 7", 2x Mustard Spot (Forget the LDA#) at 4.75-5", 4x L333 at 2-4", 8xL144 ranging from 1-4" (they had breed in the tank), 2x L204 at 2.5-3". The filtration for th...

Re: L091 in hiding for 6+ months

When I kept 3 of these triactis back over a year ago, I had them in a 55 G that was very dimly lit by a single 24" single strip light. I never had any problems with them coming out for me in the day. I also had well over 100+ pounds of bogwood in there. There were also several other small speci...

Should work. They are all the same species but what you are questioning is if it is mechanically possible for that to happen. I think it would work, not that big of a difference in size usually.

I have a group of 20 of them in a small 10 Gallon and they are growing significantly faster than my other bristlenose fry. I have softer water and a single small piece of mopani in the tank. I do 2 weekly 50% water changes to keep the water parameters in check. I also feed mine every other day swapp...

Re: L128 sexing help

It's hard to tell from the blurry photos, but the easiest way of differentiating males and females IMO in this species is to look at ondontodes on the pectral fins. Males have a significant amount more than females. Hope this helped!

Re: Need help ASAP

It is going to be pretty hard to get a proper ID on the fish from that angle and quality photo. If you are worried about stirring up the fish, then I would wait a few days and try and net him for a few good shots.

Shrimp may work but I would definitely get some sort of mid level swimming tetra. the neons or cardinals should work great. Good luck and hopefully this helped!

Re: Bristlenoses - happier with other species tankmates?

This is actually pretty common, you need some sort of dither fish for them, tetras or rasboras will work fine as they are peaceful and will not see any interest in the fry. The plecos become more reserved because they see no other fish in the tank and that sort of scares them, for lack of better wor...

Re: Maintaining colors (or lack of them)?

I've noticed this in some of the plecos i keep myself. The darker substrate seems to aid them in keeping a darker coloration. Lighter, well, makes them appear lighter! Also the lighting in most of my tanks is fairly dim so I'm sure that plays a role also. Maybe the problem could be stress?

Breeding LDA031

So yesterday I made a leap of faith into a new species. I bought 5 adult LDA 031 Mustard spot plecos in hopes to one day breed them. They are all close to, if not above 5" and I am pretty sure I have identified at least 2 males, by looking at the body odonticles and by the head shapes. From wha...

Re: Need help sexing L114

Like Jim said above, better pictures would be needed to provide a more accurate answer to what their sexes are, but from the odontode growth (I know it isn't entirely based on that) I would say that the top is female and the bottom one appears to be male. Also based on the head shapes the suspected ...
