Thank you very much Plecomania and Jorgehdzy for sharing your experiences!
Based on your thoughts and advice I have decided to keep the two males with the largest bristles, and search for 2-4 females. Hope I can find them. Adult specimens are rare over here. Only young specimens for sale, 3-4cm ...

Re: Ancistrus Red
Thank you all for sharing your thoughts! Really, I appreciate it very much!
I was hoping for a different answer though, so this is a little disappointing. When buying these fish I did notice the small bristles on all 4, but the seller sold me these as a group of 4 females (that's why I also had ...

Hi Jorgehdzy,
thanks for replying! That would be a surprise if all turned out to be males! I've just recently ordered a male A. Red to add to this group of 'females'. Maybe I should reconsider ...

Ancistrus Red
Hello,
I recently bought 4 Ancistrus Red Fire.
All 4 are about 8 cm (3.1 inch).
All 4 were sold to me as females.
All 4 have small bristles (1 to 2 mm) around their snouts, plus one of two bristles (1 to 2 mm) on top of the snout pointing up.
One of them has more and longer bristles on top of his ...

Re: He said: "Your L333 is a LDA19 ..."
Thank you all very much for sharing your thoughts with me! :-BD
The outcome is a bit dissapointing: none of you think that these fish are the L333, and most of you agree on the LDA19. The LDA19 is not the fish that I went out to buy, so I will give these new insights back to the one I bought ...

Hi,
thank you all for the replies. I appreciate it very much, .. even though the outcome is not what I was hoping for. But if I read closely, there is some hesitation in the replies.
After reading the replies I dove into the tank to measure. The male measures 8cm (3") from head to the center of ...

Hi,
I am new to Planetcatfish (this is my 2nd post) and new to L-numbers. I recently bought 2 L-numbers as a male and female L333. In an attempt to determine whether I had really bought a male and female L333 I posted my question here on Planetcatfish, and I started asking around at local aquarium ...

Help determining gender L333 post 1
Hi everybody,
this is my first post on Planetcatfish. I started keeping L-numbers recently. I have had many Malawi and Tanganyika cichlids, but L-numbers are new to me. So I would appreciate any help sexing my two L333's. I bought these two mature L333's, 8cm in size, as a male and a female. I hope ...
