I have to stop using this site until AT&T and Spamhaus figure sh** out.
AT&T's newest internet service is basically it's own proxy. It is literally a cellular service picked up by a home gateway and used to connect computers, gaming consoles, etc., to the internet. You can have a fully wired ...

Re: Spawned D. Perugiae and an unrelated conundrum
The yolk sacs are pretty much gone now. They still have yellow bellies, but their stomach is basically flat otherwise. And... they are staying attached to the glass. I've moved them into the 10G now and they are definitely attaching themselves to the glass and other surfaces like a typical pleco ...

Re: Spawned D. Perugiae and an unrelated conundrum
I have unintentionally spawned marble whiptails before, and yes their eggs were lined up flat, like a sheet of bubble wrap. These eggs were... somewhere between that and the blob-like pleco mass. So I really have no idea. The eggs were definitely discarded, so maybe a chameleon whiptail abandoned ...

Spawned D. Perugiae and an unrelated conundrum
Its clearly breeding season here!
But the best news, in my opinion, is my very first D. Perugiae spawn! I have kept them off an on since 2015 but something always went wrong. This time they were housed with very young red terrors, but I dumped one of my daphnia cultures in it. About a week later I ...

What was the dosing you used?
Late, I know. I don't seem to get the notifications from here anymore. I'll have to look into it.
Anyway, I used the dosage of about 1 "unit" on an insulin syringe per gallon of water. A "unit" on a diabetic syringe is the same as 1/100th of a mL/cc or 10 ...

Re: Attempting the impossible with S. Angelicus
Okay, back to the subject. The wholesaler sent the correct fish and all six that I ordered. They have more left too, in case anyone else is looking. They are only 2" so they'll have plenty of growing to do before they can breed. Although now I have hybrids taking up the tank I intended to put them ...

Re: Attempting the impossible with S. Angelicus
At first the sales person said he was frustrated because "if they ran out..." they should have contacted him instead of just grabbing from another row. But it sounds like they did NOT run out. The packing team just grabbed the wrong fish altogether. I'm guessing someone ignored the "location" of the ...

Re: Attempting the impossible with S. Angelicus
I am so mad tonight. The order arrived via Southwest Airlines this morning at 9:30. But Ye Olde Vice President was visiting the area, so ALL cargo was "held in place" until about 6pm. So I had to wait about 10 hours until I could pick them up. They were all alive, but I waited a long time to find ...

Attempting the impossible with S. Angelicus
Synodontis Angelicus. Yep. I plan to try breeding them. Yes, I know that probably involves hormones. I don't even have them yet - my supplier got some pure ones in (non-hybrid) and they're offering them up, although for a really high price.

I guess I got way too technical in the actual medications I used here. Not many fish people are well-versed in chemical medications as well.

Treated one disease, got another
The first half of this post is for anyone experiencing the same problems. I know the first rule about any disease, is to take the fish to a veterinarian to get it diagnosed so you can treat it PROPERLY. But none of the veterinarians around me deal with fish. I even asked a couple of them to just ...

We conclude that in order to fight this illegal trade, tougher laws against smugglers, agreements with neighboring countries to combat trafficking, formal environmental education programs for riverine populations, and further scientific studies of smuggled species are necessary.

How many of you leave fry with daddy?
It is very common practice to strip daddy of his eggs or fry and put them in a tumbler - especially for L046. But how many of you do NOT do this? How many of you leave the eggs and fry with daddy and let him raise them?

Re: YAY! My L397 has bebes!
So I've ended up with THREE L397 spawns so far! A couple of days after I found the first one, I found another male with eggs. So I moved him to that fry rearing tank. Those have since hatched, and I found a THIRD one trapping. Once the female was done and I confirmed eggs, I moved that one as well ...

YAY! My L397 has bebes!
There is no way I can get a picture of the babies right now. Daddy has them locked up pretty tight in that cave! I only barely got the flashlight at the right angle to show me a ton of tiny eyeballs staring back at me!
But here's his butt hanging out, lol!

So that just goes right back to the original problem. Everyone uses it for different things, and that makes it confusing, and pretty much useless to use F designators!

It is always applied to crosses, although the crosses can start with two wild-caught parents of the same species
This is actually one I don't agree with in any form. There is no way to know if the wild-caught parents are from the same lineage or not. Not all fish are migratory, meaning they ...

I really haven't pinpointed exactly what gets them to breed. I do weekly water changes, usually more than 50% - I leave it barely covering the fish, and then fill it all the way back up. I don't have time to vacuum the gravel on all of them, so I just to big water changes to keep the nitrates low ...

I've bred other animals, and they use the F-numbers too. But for everything out there *except* fish, the F numbers are used to designate out-crossing to another breed.
With fish, it seems people are using them to designate *their* breeding success. I've seen it on eBay, here, Facebook, etc. On eBay ...
