It doesn't look like a hybrid to me but I can't see the white barbles.

Re: Error message when updating synonyms
No worries, quite pleased to say I've got this fully up and running now. In addition to the add/amend/delete functiuonality, it now also suggests new synonyms where they exist on other datasets.

Re: Callichthys callichthys?
I do see the difference. However, males will develop heavier heads when maturing. My best guess would be this is what is happening here.
If not, then perhaps a n. sp. in the Rio Nanay but this seems unlikely.

Re: Fish Room Build
I'd go in priority of power, water and heat. Then think about tank layout, plumbing and filters. I would focus on how you are going to get water in and out and also the temperature of the room. Are you going to heat every tank, or heat the room? In terms of water in and out, I am guessing you could r...

Re: Error message when updating synonyms
I am working on migrating our synonym checker to work with data from GBIF as opposed to Fishbase. I got waylaid by working on the "deleete images from blogs doesn't work" bug and indeed background life activity has beeen hectic. So, this is fixed, but half baked as I still need to finish o...

Do you wonder if the act of moving them to the new tank was the trigger?

Re: Shrimp safe w/Raphael's
The smaller doradids eat snails, small shellfish and insect larvae in nature. I'd question their ability to catch cherry shrimp and indeed their motive if well fed. The pictures paint that picture very well.

Re: Compatibility
If there's no salt, and it's just hard water then any of the Lake Synos would work. I'd avoid smaller jungle or river synos becuase of the hard water, but several hardy larger species would also work.

In addition, rare eel-tail, banjo and woodcats live in brackish water, but are all near impossible to find. All but the banjos would eat molly fry. If you lose the salinty, but keep the water hardness there are more options. I've seen common plecos kept in low salinity water, but I can't think they'...

Re: What do I need tankwise to grow fry?
You need lots of tanks if you want to do efficiently. Or just get a large vat of some sort (is that an IBC tote?) but if you use that method, one mistake, or disease and you lose a lot of fish. I'd raise them to 1cm and then move each brood to its own grow out tank until you run out of grow out tank...

Re: ID please? I'm wondering if it's Spinipterus acsi or moijiri
The whole caudal fin is spotted in S. moijiri and sporadically spotted in S. acsi plus the latter is a bit more brown / generally lower contrasting "colours". Having kept both I know they do change from really quite light colour / high contrast to very low contrast in sparse/light/stress s...
