Re: ID please? I'm wondering if it's Spinipterus acsi or moijiri

The whole caudal fin is spotted in S. moijiri and sporadically spotted in S. acsi plus the latter is a bit more brown / generally lower contrasting "colours". Having kept both I know they do change from really quite light colour / high contrast to very low contrast in sparse/light/stress s...

Re: January 4th 2012 :: My Cats update email notification

It means it's meant to show a map, but has failed for some reason. Will look into it.

Thank you for reporting. :-)

Re: Some goofy map display on COTM

That is indeed goofy! Yet, the cat-eLog species page looks ok. On checking it out I see that it's becuase I didn't think about how to put a new/modern map on an article page. But now we can! All fixed.

The top one looks a lot like which I collected around the Iquitos area IIRC. The contrast oon my pic is high and that fish is also settled and not on a white backgrond.

Re: Ugh... another bug. This time with user data for food

Fixed. These "structured data" errors are due to a change I made to every page on the site to provide structured data about the pages content for search engines where appropriate. At present, this is mainly articles but becuase it's on every page now, I can amend it in future. If you spot ...

When I've seen them they've always been in shipments from the Parana, usually out of Uruguay.

Re: Lasiancistrus heteracanthus

It depends what you mean by eating wood. Do you mean digesting wood or ingesting wood? And do you mean wood, like from a tree, or bamboo or some random palm? These I found not to be purposful wood ingesters not like L. tentaculus , for example. They pretty much wanted to "mouth" anything t...

Re: Maps not displaying on CLOG pages

I'm delighted to say the initial full release of the new maps is now online. Lot of speed, ease of amendment and customisation going forward is now in place as well as the new inset map feature which show an overview of the main map area to provide global context. I know there will be issues and ref...

I don't think so Viktor, the barbkes don't look heavy enough and, although it develops more in later life, the dorsal fin doesn't look extendeed enough. Looks like to me.

Exciting! I regret not having time to take "Ancistr" further - one day - I think it is / would be useful to get some UK, Czech and particularly US data into the mix.

Re: Tips & Tricks for "Peru White Otocinclus"

I saw the first import of LDA109 in 2014, the location in Peru was secret back then - but they came into Norway via aquarists out in Peru. 1) Closer to Parotocinclus than Otocinclus in terms of care but it's splitting hairs - but they are smaller and eat 24/7. Generally, keeping these fishes in larg...
