I am not sure they are identical. Might it be a good idea to pull them all together in one post?

Re: What is this auchenipterus?

Here's a picture of a paratype of A. menesezi. No use for colouration, but at least it shows a similar fish structurally. Could well be a good ID.

I thought it might help if I added the image.

From the same issue, the NACG/CSG(UK)/CSG's Andy Duck and Trevor Morris winning national prizes with plecos. Yes, those really are their real-life signatures published for the nation! :-)

Re: Stranger Fins: More fish mags from the 1980s and 90s

Around about the same time as the article in Shane's post, this was I think the first "proper" L-number to appear on the PFK cover but still a few years before l-numbers gained English language usage.

Note the exchange rate, £1.90 versus US$4.50!

20220531_175808520_iOS.jpg First off is from the July 1988 issue of PFK which has the UKs first Brachyplatystoma tigrinum as its cover fish but buried deep in the news section is this gem. Yes, that's Mr ScotCat / @AJames entering a North American darter and for my money, the nicest fish in the sho...

Stranger Fins: More fish mags from the 1980s and 90s

Given Shane's great idea of posting Ginny Ecksteins awesome Ancistrus article in "Plecos: The article that started it all", I looked out a few blasts from the past.

Corydoras(ln8sc4) agassizii? I can't really make out the extent of the dorsal blotch.

PS Edited your post title as you'd missed the s off the end of Corydoras. :-)

Closest to Synodontis lucipinnis but the dorsal is clear (vs solid black) and the dots look too irregular shaped?

Re: Plecos: The article that started it all.

Yes, you’re right of course, and I know this, not sure why I made the mistake. The law is the same in the US as well although I think it’s under review. Anyway, apologies @Shane, didn’t mean to deflect from the point of the post which was the celebrate the article. Certainly I don’t know of an earli...

Re: Another “what we got here” thread

I'm not sure I understand the question, but, in any case we need sharper pics would help. Bear in mind your dark substrate will alter the appearance of the fish. Typical "culprits" in this kind of thread are Corydoras delphax and Corydoras ambiacus but just on your pics, the fishes looked ...

Re: Another “what we got here” thread

There are four species of cory here.

Corydoras panda, Corydoras melanistius, Corydoras sterbai. Pretty sure of those. The fourth one might be Corydoras virginiae. Would need clearer pics.

I can't see CW045 here - not high backed enough.

Re: Identify this catfish I found online

I think it's a S. eupterus hybrid x nigrita, apparently created with the "S. galinae" thing created/described in Russia in the 1980s. Not sure I've seen it with a common name, not those listed by Viktor anyway which are associated anyway. Seek out the hybrid syno thread in the African Catf...
