Re: Help with ID of new catfish
I'd go with for the longer one, but I would like to see a shot with a straight body / caudal fin as there are other things it might be.

Re: L071?
Hard to say 100% from the pic, but yeah, that definitely looks like it could be L071 (Scobinancistrus sp.). The spots and body shape fit. L071 and LDA33 are basically the same fish, just different trade codes depending on region, so don’t get too caught up in that.
If it’s around 12–15 cm and came ...

100% with Lee, although I can't see the characterstic feathery barbles, the more rounded shape of the caudal fin looks spot on.

Re: Bagarius protos & Bagarius dolichonema, new species
Oh, cool new species.
It's mentioned as such in the paper [Bagarius sp. ‘Salween’ Ng & Kottelat, 2021:141(Salween River).] So i think it's a safe bet. But, best to await @Silurus to confirm.

Excellent work! I think @medaka is the only other that comes to mind (maybe @achim too) that has spawned these or congeners but before breeding logs being available on this site.

Let us know if you find anything out - there is quite a lot of opinion about these, but when Ingo Seidel and I looked at them, he said they're all the same thing.
That's just made me think that I should consult his recent book - I'm away from home now but I will get back to it.

Not especially. It's one of those where the location really helps. Things like spot size (small to very small), present or not in adults are variable. Size and shape are the same given the normal variance between sexes.

Re: A day in the life of Planet
I thought I'd write a quick update on progress with the image processing re-write. It's grown a few arms and legs as it now covers a lot of admin and article rework (i.e. shane's world, CotM etc.) too. I'm continuing to do all this work offline, so the plan is to get the updates online in one go ...

So, yes, it could be - or at least one of the geographic forms. This is a species with several location dependent l-numbers.

Re: The Bagrichthys hypselopterus thread
Sure, I bought it from Wharf Aquatics after seeing it online. I'd expect it to be between $300 and $400 if ever in US. Roadtrip with my son to pick it up which was nice too. They were really good at the shop but did say it had been a really odd fish to settle in. It was the only one on sale, the ...

Re: The Bagrichthys hypselopterus thread
I have dissected specimens purchased from fish markets in Sumatra before, and their guts were full of very fine detritus (looks like substrate from large rivers). They probably ingested the substrate for the small invertebrates buried in them. The size of their mouths suggest that they can't eat ...

The Bagrichthys hypselopterus thread
So, I have long sought this species and now I have a good-sized male swimming around at home. First experiences are that Bagrichthys hypselopterus is very odd fish.

Re: Hyalobagrus flavus - male & female interactions
I've been told more than once that the female fish will exhibit blue/green eggs when gravid. I can't quite make that out, but it could be two males "discussing" a good potential spawning site or it could be a pair establishing themselves.

Re: About sperm-drinking corys
This really does look to answer one of the big questions around these catfish. If I've read it right, the female produces proteins that "stun and shield" ingested sperm as it passes through her gut. That effect wears off as the sperm near the eggs and so fertilise the eggs like other fishes albeit ...

So, I got a way into the cory renaming thing and, with a lot of help (thanks, @Bekateen), the names are all up to date. However, what this, and poor site performance, led me to find out is how we handle images is out of date. Any not very efficient either.

I was thinking about this and I couldn't understand why, if this was the case, that all mobile phone access wouldn't fall foul of the regularly switching IP problem. It boils down to AT&T not sorting themselves out as you say but, looking at the logs, there is virtually no other examples of this ...
