Re: Black bumblebee catfish?

As it’s presumably Asian my best guess would be a Hemibagrus of some sort.

Re: Sparkling Blue Glass catfish ?

Unless they could find out more details, like catch location, or get photos, it is hard to predict what species would turn up.
I’ve seen Kryptopterus macrocephalus in Borneo turn neon blue on occasion. Perhaps other species do this too.

Re: please help ID Oto

I'd say this looks like either Otocinclus macrospilus or Otocinclus mariae but most likely the former.

Do you think it's male or female?
Male, because the rear part of the body looks hairy

Re: 13 cm black with small yellow spots and long tailfin

Panaqolus albivermis Aka L204 I’d say. The lines on the body can break up into spots as the fish age. Make sure there is wood in he tank for it to gnaw on.

Re: Panaque id, weird clown?

I had a similar one and found picture of another one on L-welse. See thread here: https://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=44314&p=301582#p301410 Obviously this is a variant that turns occasionally, if rarely. Unfortunately my one died due to a clogged up filter while I was abroad fo...

Re: DNA barcoding reveals Astroblepus diversity

Wow, you must know a lot of statistics I think the curve was drawn assuming an even mixture of the species? That is, chances of being taking in the sample are for each species similar. Most likely, this will not be the case, increasing the value of 20 +/- 8 even higher. Occupational hazard :-) No s...

Re: DNA barcoding reveals Astroblepus diversity

If one collets 129 individuals, expecting them to be devided over 23 species, one would expect 5 of each species. Still, in all reality there are always some species much more abundant then others. Now I know nothing about Astroblepus, but most likely it will have a pattern much like other genera -...

Lights were on for about 8hrs a day and they seemed fine with that but they had a lot of wood and rocks and plants to hide under.

Re: Home-made pleco spawning caves

My Panaqolus claustellifer spawn in oak caves and it takes them about a year to chew through a 1cm thick wall. I also have beech and oak from my local woods in their tank and they REALLY like the beech. It disappears about three times as fast as the oak. So what I’m getting at is that you may need t...
