Hypoptopoma sp. Rio Tigre?

IMG_2644.JPG IMG_2642.JPG IMG_2638.JPG IMG_2637.JPG IMG_2636.JPG Hi all, I picked up these at the Catfish Cataclysm rare catfish auction. They were labeled as Hypoptopoma sp. Rio Tigre so I'm assuming Peru as collection point. They look very similar to Hypoptopoma cf.guianense[attachment=1]IMG_2642...

Re: Peckoltia Compta?

Your fish looks similar to a couple I picked up recently. Check out the pictures of mine on this thread- http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=45368 Personally I think mine are closer to L205 than brevis but that's my opinion, yours might be closer to brevis but there is a chan...

Re: Peckoltia furcata? ID confirmation requested

IMG_2619.JPG
I was able to get a good shot of the tail of one of them, I think the suspected female. Looking through the Cat-e-log I am leaning more towards L205 and not brevis. None of the brevis pictures show much of a fork in the tail, but the L205 pictures do.

Re: Peckoltia furcata? ID confirmation requested

Thanks Daniel!

It is certainly possible L205 and brevis are the same species. Maybe until a formal description is published I will call them Peckoltia cf brevis (L205). I'm not sure I can use the cf, have to look up my nomenclature rules.

Acanthicus wrote: 03 Sep 2017, 22:09 The pictured fishes are P. brevis.

But A./P. furcata is in the trade as well right now. Pier Aquatics got the first bigger bunch this spring and Amazon-Aquatics in Germany also got some.
What makes them brevis vs. furcata or L205? They look like a match for 205 to me.

Thanks Eric, that does appear to be it. Once they settle in I will see if I can spot odontodes to confirm my sexes.

Peckoltia furcata? ID confirmation requested

I got the fish pictured in a lump deal at a pet store going out of business. The owner said he thought the might be Peckoltia brevis and they were labeled something else (braueri maybe) when they came in. Looking through the Cat-e-log they look closer to furcata to me but I am looking for confirmati...

Re: Peckoltia ID

I have L140s and that one does not look the same, stripes are not broken up like yours and I would say there is a little more yellow in the L140. Can't confirm anything else but I would rule out L140

I have had my L140s spawn both with and without light over the tank. Regular bristlenose spawned with light on the tank.

Big L140 spawn!

Hello, just wanted to share my recent spawn for the record. I recently pulled the offspring from the 2nd successful spawn of my L140 pair. The first viable spawn (there was a previous batch of mostly unfertilized and non surviving eggs) yielded 17 fry all of which are still doing well 2 months later...

L140 fry images

I was able to get my L140 to spawn and pulled out 17 fry yesterday. I wanted to share a few pictures I took of the fry before I moved them to a rearing tank. Also, I can't find much on the way of pricing for these fish. How much would you pay for one? I am hoping to have some of these fry for sale a...

Re: Fish artificial selection ethics (why are albinos apparently not hated here?)

First off, this is a great discussion and kudos to all for posting clearly and rationally and not devolving into a flame war which can often happen in posts like this. I am in agreement with the opinion that man made deformities that clearly affect the fish (balloon body, etc.) are horrible, longer ...

So the real question is, will the banjo cats be good foster parents even though they were (presumable) not consulted or will they abuse the children :)) 8-}

Re: Newbie here - Catfish Walmart Rescue

Not to condone the Walmart fish tanks but we need to be cautious to lump them all together, just like LFS's or chain pet stores they are not created equal. While it seems like dkw's was poorly managed it will come down to the individual manager over that area. Many years ago I was one such pet depar...

Re: Indian Almond leaves

I have used them a few times, they are good for conditioning the water and softening it. Oak leaves work well for this also and for me they are way cheaper (free) and last longer.

Re: Wood for tanks?

I have several pieces of elm from the tree in my yard in my tanks right now. It was cut fresh and weighted in a spare tank until it sunk (some smaller pieces took less than a week). I did not remove the bark and the fish have been thriving, I have found that my live bearer fry have grown faster in t...

I thought dhonti had more prominent spotting and a lighter colored background. I am no expert but I just heard Anthony Tu speak this weekend on synodontis of tanganyika and the picture of dhonti he used had much different coloration than the photo above.

I have heard that scarlet badis will (in fact, are natural predators of) flatworms and will leave shrimp alone. I have been meaning to try it in my shrimp tank but haven't yet. If I do I will post the outcome.
