Re: schooling catfish
Debawi (p. Buffei and p. Debawi) are the best ones. P. Buffei are sold as debawi cats here. I had a shoal of 8 once, got em for a nice deal too.
I'm sure there are many other options but I fail to look beyond debawi's.
Glass cats are also an option. Any kind of water parameters you can give? Would ...

After reading the link to your other forum, I'm interested, do you have/had any other fish in the tank? This would probably be a haven for Blackwater fish

Any leafy shady live plants you would recommend?
Good old amazon swords are usually a safe bet. My plecs love going upside down on their leaves, though one or two of the leaves have had their top layer skimmed. Based on other tank mates I can't find a real culprit but I would suspect a hungry ...

Agree with jools looks like juvenile L199. Saying that about a thousand juvenile plecos look almost exactly the same.

Re: What kind of plec would do best with african cichlids
I have 2 bns that lived with th africans for several months and they were completely fine. It's possible to keep most "bottom feeders" ie. catfish, loaches, sharks etc. You just have to provide them with their own caves that only they fit in. Also if your looking for an algae eater the africans will ...

Re: BN plecs and african cichlids
600 pounds sounds a lot. However it is completely useless if all you have done is created a lot of beautiful swim-thrus. The plecos need hiding places that only they can get into. Somewhere they can feel safe without getting barged at by african cichlids. I also appreciate the effort of creating ...

Re: BN plecs and african cichlids
Thanks for your reply, I'm going to put some wood in. One thing you need to watch in your tank is when the Africans get older, they get much more aggressive with each other and start singling each other out. That's why too many is a good thing. They can't pick a fish to kill as easy. Thanks again ...

I would say if you want too give it a try. Provide lots of hiding places and if you see any issues remove one of them.

Re: Lost 11/2 of my ABN pair - now my male is very agitated - what can i do to settle him?
Just leave the male in there. He'll settle down eventually. As for introducing anew female wait a few weeks then redecorate the tank when you add her so the male will be preoccupied exploring his new territory. Also expect him to give the female a bit of trouble but they should be alrightm. If the ...

I thought dhonti had more prominent spotting and a lighter colored background. I am no expert but I just heard Anthony Tu speak this weekend on synodontis of tanganyika and the picture of dhonti he used had much different coloration than the photo above.

So umm... I'm in abit of a pickle. Trying the hardest I've ever tried to keep calm. Ok so I came home a few minutes ago and fed my 60g african tank. And after feeding them I noticed that the temperature had gone way down to a round room temp (just about 19c) and use turned up the heaters to max heat ...

I would say they are peckoltia, pretty sure they are not panoqulous. Will have to see whether or not they start to get more interested in wood.
Perhaps L015? I have seen a few ones with similar head shape around but none quite like that.

I have 2 BNs with my africans but my setup is 60g and they are all still juveniles. Also I have done the opposite thing to what most cichlid keepers do and have understocked (just testing things out and the fish actually seem really happy.)

Re: Can't get plecos to eat
Thanks everyone, quick update so I've tried a few different "caves" but I don't like any of them (my tank is quite natural - or at least as natural as half rift lake and half african riverine can get) and strangely enough the pleco don't seem to be using them. But I've made some changes to the ...

Would rather not try with the zucchini again until the day before a water change (a couple of days), it's makes the water kinda cloudy after a while. Though I did also put in an extra little bit coz the cichlid love it,even the syno came out and had a nibble.

Re: A good catfish for a planted community tank?
I know I'm a bit late to the party but perhaps I could still change your mind? With your water I suggest Synodontis petricola as a great community fish. They come from hard water, like to go around in shoals and only grow about 4". Perhaps a group of 6? Though they can be quite pricey so perhaps ...

Re: Can't get plecos to eat
Thanks I put in 2 pvc pipes behind the bogwood each with a small bit of zucchini. It seem like it was nibbled at but not sure they actually understand that it's food. Will put in various pleco foods in pipes very so often.
