Hi all,
I have a sterbai fry that has inverted eye coloring, and I'm worried he might be blind. All of his siblings have a black pupil and yellow ring around it, but this guy has a yellowish dot in the middle with a black ring around. He seems to act normally though, and seems fine in all other ...

Low-tech cooling
Somebody should check my calculations, but I figure that you approximately need one standard size ice cube (~20mL) for every 2 gallons to cool 25 C water by one degree.
You can probably figure out how often you would need to add ice cubes if you knew the room temperature, surface area of tank ...

Gm
Not to get off the subject, but it seems to me that there's a much better argument for GM agriculture than GM fish. GM agriculture has the potential to feed more people, provide better nutrition, reduce the use of pesticides... the list goes on and on. GM fish for a *hobby* is silly... of course ...

Just so I understand...
When you say "man-made", are you saying that man has done something specific to encourage a higher mutation rate (by using some sort of chemical agent or irradiation to affect DNA transcription), or that man has developed new strains by selectively breeding fish with "desirable" characteristics ...

Sterbai vs. Haroldschultzii??
So, I have a breeding pair of cories, what I believed were sterbai. I bought them at different stores and both were labeled sterbai, and obviously they're the same species as they're mating.
The problem is, while surfing the web I came across this photo diary of developing sterbai fry, and my fry ...

Toilet flush myth correction
I feel it's my duty to step in and dispel this myth about anything flushed down the toilet ever getting into any waterway. In the USA, and I suspect most other industrialized nations, all water that enters the sewage system is treated to remove all solids and bio-materials ("floaters" and fishies ...

Update
Hi,
Since last posting, I've moved the remaining fry (now down to 2, currently 2+ weeks old) into a new bare-bottom tank just for them, and started feeding on baby brine shrimp. They seem happier.
The parents continue to spawn, but on watching them closely I noticed that the male follows the ...
