I guess a longer and shallow tank would do better for them to have more digging room....

If I were to design a tank for cories, I guess it'll be something along the lines of say 3 feet long with a foot height and 1 foot and 1/2 width for more room for the fishes to be on near the bottom....

Re: Lower PH

What methods do you use to lower the PH in the tank?

In Singapore, we use Indian Almond leaves and also the Tetra Blackwater, both helps with a darker water colouration and a slightly lowered pH value.

As for buffering and more serious lowering, I guess the store bought chemicals should do the ...

More if you like, but make sure there's enough filtration....

I over-filtrate with a ext cannister and an internal cannister and thus I can get away with more fishes... about 20+ in a 2 footer.

Check the gravel. Does it have sharp edges... if so, it may have been the cause of injuring the cory's mouth.

This sounds a little like MouthRot/Mouth Fungus. If so, it's a bacterial infection

Cottonwool fungus could also be a possibilty esp when there are wounds.

I guess most of the time, they'd be hiding under the filters???

If this is so, then they'd need some places to hide from the lights, give them some room and they'd feel more at ease and may breed soon too.... try some fast growing plants for cover... and some moss for them to lay the eggs on ...

ZAC08, are you thinking on artemia salina??
Yes, I have eggs at home, but i produce live artemia only for fry... do you suggest that feed my cory's with artemia eggs or with live ones??

I guess they have been answered...

Both works for cories.... Just be careful of the shells, esp for juvenile ...

Try Interpet No 9. it's meant for internal bacteria. This seems like a classic case of internal pathogens acting up on weaker fishes.

Normally it acts on one or two weaker ones... Try a partial water change of abt 20% to lower any chances of other pathogens or nitrate levels, this may help the rest ...

Wat's the weather like at your place?? If it's about 24 - 28°C, it's just nice... not too low or not too high...

Any lower, you may need heaters, too high, you'd want to get some fans or chillers (if you're rich enuff)

Tank size? I guess something of about 20 gallons or so ...

Some tricks I've heard....

Lowering the water level over a few days to simulate a dry hot season.... and adding cool water about 1 - 2 weeks later.... this will simulate a rainy season after a long and dry spell.... Not sure how well it works...

Good luck,
