Re: Drought has Amazon tributary at record low levels
It was more ice then today, http://www.accessscience.com/popup.aspx?figID=800690FG0040&id=800690&name=figure I did not find any map for europe or asia and south america that showed the ice cap and glasiers for 7000 years ago, this map for north america show 18.000-7.000 years ago. The glasie...

Re: Drought has Amazon tributary at record low levels
No, it was in the end of an iceage and lots of freshwater was bounded as ice in the poles etc. thats the reason the water level was much lower under this period. These carvings lead me to the question.
Was there global warming caused by humans 7000 years ago?

I would think L66 due the lower body profile, size of eye compared to the size of head and the overall pattern.

I't was some time ago that I kept these but Norman and Paul are for certain correct, I never succeeded to breed so I was not 100% sure which was male or female. But they are very lovely and active species.

Re: Pterosturisoma microps
You should go for it, these are one of my favourite fishes, follow Norman's advice but also feed them frozen Cyclops several times per week. I didn't find them so difficult after they was aclimitized, they are little sensitive in the beginning. Pterosturiosoma_microps.jpg Male. Pterosturiosoma_micro...

Re: L333 & l201
If they are adults there are always a risk for hybridization but if they are youngsters < 6-7cm TL you can keep them together until they reach maturity and show sign for breeding. If the size are small and they still are youngsters I recomend to not feed bloodworms, there are always a risk to overfe...

Saul just mentioned for Intrepidmax that L088 and L338 is very difficult to tell apart, maybe Ingo has seen his or her fish too. The fact is that L338 is far more common and L088 very rare in the hobby, it would be very interesting to see a picture of the adults and if possible to know if they was e...

Maybe this is not any new rules/laws, I think Colombia just like Brazil have rules and laws for fishing since many year (at least several years) for protect areas and species under a certain time of year. Several places in Brazil is fishing forbidden for a 4 months period under the reproduction peri...

What are the size of these Hypancistrus specimens?
They look quite small and if youngsters 1-1,5 years old 5-6 cm they can be L262, better to take a picture with little more distance and something else than a snail to compare with ;)

That is a JOKE- the only thing endangering the zebra pl*co is the Brazilian government. It's not the best photos because it's difficult to compare the size of the eyes with the siz of the head. L174 have very small eyes compared with L399-400 and on these pictures second photo is for sure L174, could you get a better picture of the first fish?

1) It is stated in some online articles that there is a requirement that flow through the Volta Grande should not be less than 1000m3/s after the construction of the dam. Is this accurate? Not really, the latest statement is 30.000m3/h but this is a number with modefication. This flow may be 0 some...

Re: Bought as L134
L080 should not be harder to get than L134, both species is exported frequently and none of them is rare... just a different in the price level.
I would not be so worried for hybridisation between these 2 species, I will not say it's impossible but very unlikely they would hybridisize.

I think you maybe got 2 species mixed, this Peckoltia sp(l387) and this Peckoltia sp(l147) L147 look very similar as L387 when they are small and could have been mixed from the exporter in Colombia. The orange ones L387 and the reddish L147 and the latter have a more spotted appearance. L387 as adul...

Since this is not about identifying the species, I'll move it to the Loricariidae section. The 2 pictures shows the "real" L081 and the first pic is a female and the second are a male, adults of L018 is very similar to adults L081. It's difficult to only use the amount or size of spots to separate them. In general L081 from young to adult have smaller and a higher density of spo...

This one are exported as L081 Baryancistrus sp Stardust Sao Felix or as L081/47 Baryancistrus sp Sao Felix. They origin from the middle course of Rio Xingu around the small village Sao Felix do Xingu. Maybe should have their own L-number to make it less confusing, there are 3 variants of L081 incl. ...

Re: ID for this white spot Ancistrus
I would say they are L213 if they have a bluish tint in their eyes, the variation in density of spots is large in this species and is not a good sign to use for id. However, I cannot say for sure they are 1 species or 1 locality of this species shipped as L213, fishermen can catch at many locations ...

Another thing I wanted to comment on was their diagnosis. Their description diagnoses this species by a rather specific striping pattern on the snout which clearly doesn't hold if you look at the Cat-eLog. Seidel says in the Back to Nature guide that the stripes do not break up into spots until the...
