Re: Paint for tanks

I've used black 'exterior gloss' on the backs of all my tanks. Needs a couple of coats, as the paint tends to leave 'holes' in it with just 1 coat, which you can just cover with the 2nd coat.

I used exterior gloss as I thought it would have better water resistance properties than any other 'off the ...

Feeler: 4 Adult L134 (UK)

Hi guys,

I've spotted a 'exciting' possible breeding project in my local MA, but I haven't got the capacity in my tanks for it, so I'm thinking about selling 4 of my L134's.

I 'beleive' them to be 2 males and 2 females. They are all wild caught adults, that I have had for about 9 months after ...

Re: Leopard Frog maturity

I've got 9 adult L134's, and find it difficult to sex them, and there all over 4" in length.

They all 'cave' which rules out common 'rules' that only males 'cave'!

I know I've got at least 1 female, as I've had two successful spawns from them :D

My fry have reached 1.5" (TL) in about 4 months, so ...

Help ID my Farlowella.....

Hi guys,

Just wondering if any of you can help to try and ID my Farlowella.....

I've attached a couple of pics that should help!

From what I've read, I beleive it's an F. Vitarta, due to the 2 rows of breast plates and the relatively long rostum.

Also, any idea on the sex? There are no ...

Re: Sexing L134 male or female

No 1 and 2 are definitely males, you can see the ordontodes towards the tail of both fish.

No 3 could possibly be a female, due to the lack of visible ordontodes.... I may be wrong though!

L333 ??

Can anyone confirm if my plec is/isn't an L333.....

He's 4.5" (SL) and I've had him for over a year and he hasn't grown much, so I'm guessing he's fully mature....

pumping air into the sealed tank, will creat a positive pressure, and the air will leak out through small gaps etc.

This positive pressure will prevent chemicals from coming in through those very same gaps that the air is escaping from....

Hi guys,

I've just aquired 7 of these little guys :) They're about 35mm long.

Am currently researching them, and would love any hints/tips etc you guys can give me !!

They're currently in a 120L tank, with a fine gravel substrate, some mopani bog wood, and some PVC breeding tubes I'd previously ...

Have eventually (due to a lack off £££) managed to get all of the plumbing into the tank, and painted the back, and also added the grvael to the tank.

Next job is to purchase a 25kg bag of 5-10cm round pebbles.... to simulate the natural habitat of the L134's.

I've also found a source of Lemon ...

Finally got round to assembling the PVC piping that I'm using at the return for the powerhead.

I've got a grid of piping at one end of the tank, drilled with lots of small holes, and then that 'grid' feeds along the back of the tank to the powerhead at the opposite end.

The powerhead I'll be using ...

Yup !! ;)

Every 4-6weeks you can expect to have a spawning if you've got the water conditions correct !!! ;)

Where in the UK are you ???

Wouldn't mind a couple of BN's when I get my tank set back up !!

Hi sojopat,

That is superb information, much appreciated :D

May look at using just the one powerhead (which I already have!), saves a bit of money to !!

Are there any Characins that live in the same water as the L134's?

Cheers,

Andy

As for heat transfer, it'll be a bonus in fact, as room temerature in the Uk very rarely gets above tank temperature anyway !!! ;)

Nice looking Fish :)

What current do you think they would prefer?

I'm currently looking at using 2 powerheads, rated at 1100 l/h each. Giving a total of 2200 l/h.

The tank has a usable volume of about 180 l. Giving a turnover of about 11 times an hour.

There will also be a Fluval 304 giving ...

It was your thread that was one of the ones that inspired me to do a river tank :)

I like the pump idea.....

Will probably stay internal, as everything is still hidden, no pipes running up the back of the tank etc.

Have found a powerhead on Ebay for £30, that ...

Proposed River Tank

Hi guys,

I've just moved house, and am going to set my 54" x 12" x 18" tank back up as a river tank.

The main inhabitants of the tank will be a colony of 5 x L134 (Leopard Frog Plec).

I've seen a couple of really good threads onhere, with photo's etc of river tank set-ups. Got loads of good ...
