Re: New group of l397
The pair that was trapping ended up spawning and I was able to pull ~25 wigglers from them but the original spawn was eaten by the male.

Congrats! Saw the thread about cave types its interesting how they prefer such an open looking cave. Any pics of the wigglers?

Looking good! The fry have pretty distinct honeycomb looking patterns are they all faded on the parents?

Re: New group of l397
A little update on the group no spawns yet but I currently have a pair trapping since yesterday and another pair that seems to be bit confused. I'm 99% sure there's already a pleco in the cave and it's a male, and the one outside the cave seems to be a male due to the few odontodes on the tail. It's...

Congrats! What's the first spawn looking like now? Are there many nooks and crannies you can't see?

Re: Help with sexing L 471 - First spawn
Second spawn was a success! Pulled 9 wrigglers today same number as the last spawn had eggs. Put the 3 older fry in the main tank and am hoping they do well.

Re: Help with sexing L 471 - First spawn
Time for an update they're doing well and looking fat and happy. I think the male's sitting on another spawn as he had a female trapped Saturday and hasn't left his cave since but can't see any eggs. Will try to get better pictures Sunday when I release them with the parents and hopefully have the n...

Re: Help with sexing L 471 - First spawn
Congratulations on the fry! Some flake foods or meatier type pellet foods should be offered too IMO. I do find Hypancistrus fry like to eat off leaves and wood much more than most adults. The fry will often eat some algae as well. Take care, Chuck Thanks Chuck! I've been offering some bug bites and...

Re: Help with sexing L 471 - First spawn
It was a small spawn and there were some losses but I have 3 healthy 2 week old fry. It's not much but this is the shot I was able to get of 2 of them. I've been feeding repast bottom scratcher and tried feeding green peas today but not sure if they're eating anything other than the leaves for now.

Re: New group of l397
Less than 3 weeks later and I already have my first trapping :d ! The tanks above the garage and right after taking this picture someone opened it causing the male to dart out of the cave so I turned the lights off and I'll resist the urge to check the tank again until tomorrow hopefully they weren'...

Re: Help with sexing L 471 - First spawn
18 months later after the loss of a female, and adding another hopeful female last Christmas I've had my first spawn! 3-4 days ago I decided to cover the tank to give them privacy as they're still very skittish, and last night I removed it just to check-in and a male was trapping the new fish in a p...

New group of l397
After getting reassurance from other members, I ended up pulling the trigger and getting a group of 8 wc l397. They're smaller than I thought they'd be with most of them at ~9 cm SL but out of the 7 I was able to get a look at I have 3 confirmed males with hairy tales and then 4 unsexed/unsure. Do I...

How long are l397s fertile
Hello all, I have the opportunity to buy a group of 8 wild caught l397s for a good price. I'd be interested in breeding them but the seller says he got them as juvies and had them for at least 4 years. Is there a rough estimate of how long they're fertile and/or when their fertility starts dropping?...

White wound under pleco eye
Hello all, I was away for 3 weeks and came back to a clogged filter and 3 out of 5 of my l002s with a varying degrees of this whitish wound under their eye (as seen in the attached picture), with one of them having it on both sides and the other having it completely cover an eye as well. Is it a fun...

Kidnapped pleco eggs
I have a group of l002 in the same tank as a pair of bristlenose. The bristlenose spawned a couple days ago and it all seemed routine until I checked the tank today and saw a male l002 with a shredded tail inside the cave (probably due to daddy bristlenose), and the male bristlenose sitting outside....

They look really good! Keep it up. Cheers, Eric Thanks! I think the youngsters look like 306 Yeah I'm surprised they have a reddish tint to them and the contrast is much more vibrant than the parents. From other l002 breeding logs I've seen though it seems to be normal for the fry to look a lot bet...

Re: L002 breeding project - Trapping after 3 days?! (Not quite but after 7 months YES)
Here's a 1 month update on the little guys. Still have all 14 of them and they're growing well on a diet of green peas, algae wafers, repashy bottom scratcher, and get bug bites and earthworm sticks a couple times a week. The floating cave they spawned in eventually sank (with the male still in it),...

Looking for rarer Ancistrus
Hi all, I'm looking for rarer Ancistrus such as dolichopterus (L-183), Ancistrus claro, Ancistrus wabenmuster, and Ancistrus sp. (L-393) in Canada and preferably in the GTA. If you have others I haven't listed available please let me know as these are just the main ones. Would also prefer adults but...

Look great. My guess is they hatched only in the last day or two. They look very young. Good luck with them! Cheers, Eric Thanks! Here's a one week update they're doing well and by tomorrow I think most of them will have completely finished their yolk sack. I fed a pea yesterday and it's not there ...

Re: L002 breeding project - Trapping after 3 days?! (Not quite but after 7 months YES)
Well I pulled the wrigglers a couple days ago and they still have a significant portion of their egg sack considering they were laid the 12th but it might be because the temperature was around 24 degrees for a while. There's 14 of them and all are healthy except for the one in the middle of the pict...
