Re: Fungus on my brochis!?

Thanks for your reply.
I'll try and get a photo to post. My water parameters were: ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm, and nitrate 5ppm as of yesterday, but I did not test the water while they were in the temporary 20gl setup. It is quite possible that the water quality became poor in that small of a tank ...

Fungus on my brochis!?

Hey folks,

I've got my group of 10 brochis splendens moved into my 46gl community tank and they seem quite happy and active. The only problem is, that two of them are exhibing white/ish areas on their faces. One has a white "pimple" on its nose, just above the barbles, the other, has signifigant ...

Re: Local Petco selling HUUUUGE brochis.

Good find!

When I went to my petco last week in search of driftwood (which I found), they had albinos, peppered, c. trillineatus (mislabeled as jullis) and what they called brochis splendens...the one that I could see up close was C. aneus and the others were small, inactive, and not very happy ...

Re: Sand suggestions?

Thanks everyone for your help!

I found a really good price online for the flourite black sand (and the site had reasonable shipping too) so I ordered 3 bags of it. I plan on mixing it with pool filter sand (about 2/3 flourite and 1/3 filter sand) to achieve a more natural look. I will let you guys ...

Re: How many B. splendens to stock in 46gl?

Thanks for the reply!

I'll definately pick up another 3-4 then...The LFS had some "stragglers" that got put into other tanks solo (with, say platies, etc.) so I'll see if they will go around and net them out for me.

I'm doing 1, 15 - 20% change a week and am using 2 HOB aquaclear filters (AQ300s ...

Re: Sand suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestions...

We do have a pool supply place in town, so I can check out the pool filter sand... Can anyone tell me what "color" it is? Is it really white or more "play sand" colored? I'd like a more natural looking and/or darker sand substrate...so whatever I go with I may mix with ...

How many B. splendens to stock in 46gl?

Hey folks,

I have recently added a group of 7 brochis to my 46gl bowfront planted tank to go along with the lone brochis that I "adopted" from someone who was tearing down their tank... So now I have a very happy group of 8 swimming all over the tank.

I will be rearranging my tanks and rehoming ...

Sand suggestions?

Hey folks,

I am looking at setting up a new 10gl planted tank for dwarf cories and am also planning a redo on the substrate of my 46gl community, which will hopefully turn out as a more catfish-centric planted setup. I have used a couple of different planted tank substrates before, but would like ...

Re: 10gl planted tank...but which "dwarf" to go with?

OK, the pygmeus are growing on me... BUT, I might have a change in plans. I will have to breakdown and move both of my current tanks when the floors are refinished in my home. I have a 46gl bowfront community tank at the moment and I am thinking about rehoming the angelfish and roseybarbs in it to ...

Re: 10gl planted tank...but which "dwarf" to go with?

Thanks again for all of the great info!

If the aspidoras are considerably more "fragile" than I'll steer clear of them for now. I'd hate for my first experience with the small cories to be a bad one... I'll have really take some time and decide which dwarf to go with. At first I was leaning towards ...

Re: 10gl planted tank...but which "dwarf" to go with?

Richard B- Thanks for the information. I am not sure about the US as a whole, but availability of any kind of fish, other than your standard guppies, platties, tetras, common pleco, etc. is pretty near zero in my area (the southeast of the US in a smaller city). The one shop in my area that does do ...

Re: 10gl planted tank...but which "dwarf" to go with?

Thanks for the information. I'll check out the visitherms, maybe the one I purchased in the past was just a "lemon". I do still have one visi-therm that has been working for several years. I've also heard good things about the Hydor heaters, so I'll check on those as well.

Oldman- I'm not sure if ...

Re: 10gl planted tank...but which "dwarf" to go with?

thanks for the feedback and replies everyone!

I usually keep 2 power filters on even my small tanks due to the risk of one failing and having a backup... With the 10gls that I've kept in the past, this has meant 2, penguin "mini" filters or similar small aquaclears. I have kept cories (a small ...

10gl planted tank...but which "dwarf" to go with?

Hey folks,

I am going to be setting up a 10gl planted tank in the near future and was wondering which of the three dwarf species would work best and how many to stock. The only other tank inhabitant will be a very small male betta (and possibly some MTS to help keep the sand clean and aerated ...

Thanks for your help!

I had been leaning towards the whiptails or the snowball...I'll try and ID the whiptail and post back..who knows with my lfs' knowledge of cats..they might not even be whip tails. They did seem fairly personable though, when I tapped on the glass one of them raised his dorsal ...

Which pleco to buy?

Being new to cats, and fancy plecos in particular, I'd like some help deciding which pleco to add to my community next. In my area the lfs doesn't carry fancies very often, so when one is available I'm always tempted to buy it

I've currently got a 10gl planted community and a 46gl planted ...
