Re: Heater for pricy plecos

I don't know if I am in the minority but had problems adjusting the temperature on eheims, the wheel starts to get hard to adjust and by that point you don't really know what's turning so changing the temp a degree or two is a nightmare. So far I never had one malfunction thankfully but I am not so ...

Re: A not so experienced pleco keeper chugging along, L397 for start!

Ive noticed! haha. Going to the LFS tommorow to see what they have available. You are truly a life saver(Getting input from more experienced keepers is at the very least reassuring), matten filter scares me somehow but guess it's just a filter pad and a powerhead behind it. Might still opt for spong...

Re: A not so experienced pleco keeper chugging along, L397 for start!

I would be fine with spong filters (or a Matten) and a wave maker. Good luck, Eric Thanks, might look into matten filter do you by chance have any guide or something to recommend? Suppose it's kinda easy to make one yourself but hard to judge how porous filter media to use etc. Might still opt to j...

Re: A not so experienced pleco keeper chugging along, L397 for start!

Still working on transforming my small apartment to a mini fishroom! :)) Next up is the second 120litre tank in which I am going to house the L397s. I am considering just using a couple of spongefilters(+wavemaker) for the group of (5 or)6 individuals and maybe some dither tetras would you say this ...

Re: Adolfo not eating

@bekateen Would you say that feeding live blackworms/having them in the tank is key to success with corydoras in general? I never really considered feeding mine live food since, frankly, I don't really like handling it(bugs kinda creep me out I guess) but if it's important I should overcome that sma...

What's your stance on ecological vs non-ecological veggies? For plecos of course! ;)

Re: A not so experienced pleco keeper chugging along, L397 for start!

Moving slowly but over the last couple of days I have managed to setup the first tank in the rack, it's a 120 litres tank which will house my small group of cw009(just 5 left after a couple of mishaps, not sure when I will get the chance to add to the group- dream scenario is that they manage it the...

Re: A not so experienced pleco keeper chugging along, L397 for start!

Progress so far, I am a bit concered that the pieces of wood are not entirely flat(can get a couple of cards inbetween the spirit level and the surface) but I am thinking it should be okay considering the tanks are just 30gal each?). Don't think I can get it much more in level atleast so ill just go...

Re: A not so experienced pleco keeper chugging along, L397 for start!

Had somewhat of a "downperiod" as a far as aquariums are concerned but now stuff happened. I got a good deal on a couple of 75x40x40cm tanks. My idea is to move the L397 group(6 fish) over there, I will separate one since it seems to have some deformity on it's head. I am just a bit afraid...

Corydoras randomly dying, any ideas?

I got this group of 7 CW009 a couple of months ago. Originally I had some problems with one which I thought to be septicemia, it made it through and everyone has seemed to do well since. Up till two weeks ago that is, I found one dead in the morning figured it was probably the one that had problems ...

Re: This is disturbing

There is a "progressive" movement called trans-humanism. This appears merely a complementary branch of trans-animalism. Both are a regress IMHumO and signal the decay and an ensuing end of humanity (to me). Transhumanism is an ideology that advocates for the transformation of the human co...

Re: Corydoras Eques setup

But how would I attach it in the substrate if not doing that? Currently have it floating but to be honest I think my circulation in the aquarium might be abit strong and it doesn't look to hot right now, might try to attach it to some branches or whatever with your method or just cable ties, I also ...

Re: Corydoras Eques setup

Okay! I don't really understand what part of it is the stem and what's not(the plant is not in the best of shape so that doesn't help) ill have to check in the morning once lights are on. Maybe ill just try to attach it to something like you did!

Re: Guianacaras/Bandit Cichlids with L397?

I half expected some kind of(well atleast in relevance to the aquarium hobby) life changing event with blood and carnage. Must say that I am a bit disappointed! But I suppose a ton of cichlids is pretty much carnage in it's natural form.

Re: Guianacaras/Bandit Cichlids with L397?

Oh I meant the guianacaras but it is true I feel like my tank is a showcase for different kind of waste products more than anything else! Mine won't eat broccoli for some reason, can't say that I blame them! =)) I like to feed the yams since it's easy to see the orange mounds and just vacuum them ev...

Re: Corydoras Eques setup

Great looking tank, is that pennywort to the right? (I know close to nothing about plants but it looks very good! :) Yes indeed, hydrocotyle leucocephala, aka Brazilian pennywort. Great plant! I've got it secured on the driftwood rather than planted and it does great Good thing I was right for once...

Re: Guianacaras/Bandit Cichlids with L397?

Appreciate the input decided against the whole thing and ended up with a school of colombian tetras instead, they look amazing already only got 10 though and feel like 10 more wouldn't hurt. In the, not so distant, future I will most certainly get guianacaras but hopefully in a slightly larger tank....
