L144 question

Is it possible to get L144 from a cross of a red marble and either another red marble, a calico or a gold spot. Not sure who the Mom is, but Dad is a red marble. Some of the fry are looking like common gold spot BN, but what looks like a large portion of a possible second clutch of eggs are yellow b...

 Sorry to hear your female died. I have had problems getting my albino BN to spawn as well. I've tried all the tricks and all my ohter BN including my long fin albinos have all spawned 3 or 4 times since my standard fin albinos have. Guess the best thing is to leave them be and let them spawn w...

I use trios of BN as well, but one lucky male has 3 females with him. I have 4 types of bn. My females (in the same tank) often spawn within about 24 hours most of the time. Once they are all done I remove the male and eggs to a 10g tank to hatch out. The breeders are in my angel, blue ram and apist...

There is a size difference with all spawns (likely male/female) but BN will spawn with eggs or fry in the same pot. My 3 brown females lay eggs on the same day, but my albinos looked like they were going to spawn about 10 days apart (till one female died) I have a spawn of albino BN that look like 2...

If you are going for large....go for the expensive ones. Commons are the cheapest pelco around and every store has them. Check out their habitat and try to set the tank up as close as possible and you just may be the first to breed a specific species in a home tank. Good luck on getting the unheard ...

The remaining one is fine but 2 or 3 died off during the night. Some with signs of fighting, ot...

Of my 3 female (brown) BN breeders they are all different sizes. I'm sure if it is not due to lack of food as there are left overs in the morning. Some just don't eat as much, but the largest female is the dominant one and gets to spawn with the male first :) He lets them all in the cave on the same...

I have heard of new fathers eating the eggs, but if he has spawned before then I would check to see if something is up with the tank. The pot with a hole in the lip and resting in the saucer is fine. When you do a w/c you can use slightly cooler water so you drop the tmep a degree or so. It will suprise you how much poop even 2 create. In a 10g you will need to do every other day w/c likely. Don't forget to feed them veggies like ...

Till more is know about the genetics of BN we won't be sure. With angels it is possible to get "throw backs" from grand parents. This is from breeders who have kept track of the genetics of fish they have bred and kept to use as breeders. There are not very many...ie 1 or 2 in a spawn of s...

Congrats on the spawn! Sounds like you have a good Dad there to. If they are the only fish in the tank all you will have to worry about is the filter. Did you have fry die off very young in the other spawns, or maybe the particular female who had the brown fry didn't spawn before. A friend of mine has an albino pair, but they have 1/2 brown fry. Brown BN fry start out looking like albinos with no colour, then darken by the time the egg sac has bee...

One of the parents must not carry 2 albino genes. If they each pass on 2 genes one must be a/b and the other a/a. Your ratio should be more like 1/2 brown. Albino is a recessive gene so unless you get an a/a combo they will be brown. If you still have the females tht produced all albino fry, put the...

Time will tell. Once he gets his bristles keep and eye out to see if he lets a female in there. If so, then he doesn't come out for a week you will know there are fry under the wood :)

He may pick a cave once it is breeding time, but if he likes it there he may just stay :)

The male may keep them in the cave for 10 or more days :) Mine doesn't but, I remove Dad and eggs to a 10g to hatch as the angel tank mates would eat the little guys and my "cave" is open on both ends. When they lay eggs I put it upright on the glass bottom so there is only one entrace but...

How big are the fry? If you have a planted tank with plenty of tiny hidding spaces it may be easier to leave them in the main tank. You can TRY to catch them and put them in a 10g but you should have a cycled sponge filter in the tank. The next time they spawn (in a month or so) try to remove Dad an...

I would go with a common pleco...thye do get huge and can live with oscars. BN do stay too small for large oscars.
