all pimelodids except p.pictus & p.ornatus are under illegal import status.
hence the high price. people smuggle the fish in from asia, and they can charge whatever they want for them.
and people WILL pay.

unfortunently for fishkeepers in australia b.juruense and m.tigrinus are not available here. the list of not too difficult to obtain pimelodids down here goes like this: p.pictus p.ornatus l.marmoratus s.planiceps s.lima p.fasciatum/tigrinum the last four all command a price over $600 i have seen ot...

so it might work in the pond?
tiger snose cost $600 down here. i dont want to risk this if it will ultimately fail. or be cruel to the fish in any way.
the shopkeeper told me a 6x2x2 and a large external canister was all i would need.
i tend to disagree with this type of information though...

the biggest one i've seen in aus, was 28inch.
its 10yrs old and has been in a HUGE (lxwxh) 10x7x3 tank all its life.
how often do they reach 42inch (105cm) in captivity?

the pond is covered w/a metal grating.
so what should i do w/these fish?
i can't kill them-its not the fishes fault they were sold by an irresponsible shop to uninformed people.

uh yeah...
the fish will have to be acclimatize back to that hardness because i'm rescuing them from a tank set-up for african rift lake cichlidae!

hey i have pimelodus blochii with a bump/lump on his snout it has only recently appeared and does not appear red or sore in any way. he has'nt bumped the tank side, its just not that sort of thing. tank conditions are perfect : no nitrite or ammonia, ph and hardness are fine can anyone help? i hope ...

pimelodid biotope aquaria

cant seem to find much about natural habitats of pimelodid sp.
in particular the pimelodus group: pictus, ornatus, blochi,ect
can anyone help?
