Re: Pleco Identification
Here's a more recent baby pic if that helps at all 20230814_223645.jpg Now that looks very much like my fish, except that it's what my ADULT fish look like, and even after all these months, my adults are still only 5-6cm SL. And my fish, juvies and adults, are distinctly green irridescent. Casscats...

Re: Corydoras gossei
Looking them here at their localities, rio mamore is one that pops up.
They don't show in the video, but this is underwater footage of part of rio mamore

Perhaps this could help?

Re: Unspotted ancistrus at petsmart
I do know this location does deal with *some* wild caught fish. Such as their chaetostoma, panaqolus, and oddball corydoras (I've found weitzmani, c102, and others among their fish, plus ceratogarra cambodgiensis which is another wild caught oddball). So I don't know, it very well could have came i...

Re: Unspotted ancistrus at petsmart
Nice. That said, it's nearly impossible to know what shows up at a Petsmart or Petco, since they have such poor documentation of what they're getting. Assuming the store isn't ordering wild-caught fish, this could just be some mutt of a common BN. On the other hand, is this fish matures at about 2....

Unspotted ancistrus at petsmart
Did not buy it because my quarantine tank is full up and no more room in my tanks for more plecos, but he's an unusual fish. Can guess this is not a domestic? It is being sold as a domestic however. It did not want it's photo taken or want to be seen, it wanted to hide away, so this is the only phot...

Which going back to triradiatus page, counting dorsal and caudal rays on the pictures there, the female lines up with the exact same count as those fish as well.

"However, her spots are rather bold for triradiatus, no? These are present on dark wood or light sand, shes always got bright white spots" You can tell best as you can see the actual live fish. They have bred so many mutant "common bristle noses" now that color\pattern alone my ...

Re: Are these two different ancistrus?
Male looks typical. Check your female against A. triradiatus. -Shane See how well I can identify ancistrus, I thought the female was the normal one haha... Ya know, size wise that'd make sense. She's a little lady. I just figured she was just small lol However, her spots are rather bold for triradi...

Are these two different ancistrus?
So I thought both were domestics, I got from separate sources at different times. Both from local owners, not from stores. Just generically called bristlenose plecos, so I assumed the usual cf cirrhosis as is usually the case. Comparing them to one another, the male is massive in size compared to th...

Little guy, actually girl, has grown a smidge since I brought her home and has offered a full open tail view and I was able to count 10 caudal rays, which now rules out minerim. Brochis Splendens Fry
Recently raised up some brochis splendens fry, rather handsome little guys They were a community spawn leaving me wondering if it were my corydoras eques, corydoras loxozonus, or brochis splendens and I did not know until the fry began growing a larger dorsal fin than normal corydoras fry. 20230917_...

Re: Pleco Identification
Fry photos would be really fantastic. And mouth closeups of all of them too would be another great option since my understanding is the mouth shape varies among species too. Interestingly the male has grown an inch since I got them. The fry are still showing a red tone, but interestingly so does the female when on substrate! Fantastic, thank you, so assuming my guesses are probably correct. Giving it a few weeks before they're put together. I had to cull a tank due to medication resistant disease, so I'm super paranoid of that all over again, so they're in a quarantine tote. The 3 new ones are together, but not my origi...

@bekateen @shane Took them out for photos of their upper lips. I will do each individual as it's own reply for easier organization. If you can label who's what would be great. Re: Sexing Chaetostoma formosae
It is not related to size. Any sexually mature male will develop the lip and extended pelvic fins if they are healthy and females are present. -Shane Going by that, would you say the original fish is male or female? Lacks the fin extensions but lip looks more swollen than the younger batch. I am no...

And with the new Chaetostoma, there's also a panaqolus included, I think is probably maccus but many look the same to me in this genus lol
Little young fish, but cute. Can see, still only 2-2.5"SL in size.

The page for the species on these claim they can be sexed using the pelvic fins, stating males have extended points? Yes this is true. If you're fish are mature, I see only one fish with extended pelvic fins, although the difference is not dramatic in your fish (maybe not fully mature, or maybe nee...

What exactly do you look for on the upperlip? I can net each individual tomorrow for lip photos, they're in my quarantine tub for now and I don't want to disturb them so soon after acclimating them.
