Got in some new unknown Otocinclus species in my LFS. Any thoughts on what it could be?
Ps. I think it might be a vampire Otocinclus? Might be wrong though.
Cheers!

Re: Tips & Tricks for "Peru White Otocinclus"
Thanks for the tips! This batch of them came with severe white spot issues and wiped out a lot of fishes in my temporary tank along with the otos themselves. Thankfully I got a further 3 more and currently have 2 nursed back to health in a QT tank.

Tips & Tricks for "Peru White Otocinclus"
Hiya guys, so I recently got some Peru white otocinclus. Been doing some research / asking around but there's barely any info on these fish + some opinions I got were pretty split. Anyone had experience with these and could give some tips?

Hmmm, what's the easiest way to tell between the two?bekateen wrote: 03 Sep 2023, 06:04 Not likely L471 at that size. I'm sticking with L201, but I still can't rule out contradens.

Hiii, thé unidentified pleco in my previous post was sold to a local collector but I bought another one that I thought was 399 but any help to confirm it would be great because I caught it from a tank of 333,399 and 400s

Re: L201 Snowball Gender?
Thanks! Well it was sold as L471 but well just size alone tells me it’s not that so I connected it to L201 but well you could be rightFallen_Leaves16 wrote: 03 Sep 2023, 05:12 Looks like a well-fed male to me, based on head shape and odontodes.

L201 Snowball Gender?
I have this L201 that needs some help with gender id, I think it’s a female from the body shape and from what I can last remember about the reproductive organs but any help to confirm would be greatly appreciated! Picture was when I just got it from the store and was rehabbing it!

Re: Hypan ID
I could swear that I saw an undescribed Hypancistrus for sale almost exactly akin to the one you posted
I do agree it does look kinda similar to the 173b you linked but also not at all at the same time :)) :)). Well this fish is $180 locally so would be $130usd so definitely way cheaper if you ...

Re: Hypan ID
I understand that for sure. And as I always say a fish is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. I could be wrong, but it looks like a very nicely patterned L333.... fins, body, and eye seem to fit though very hard to tell from sure...... pattern is almost never a good way to ID ...

Re: Hypan ID
Twice the price of a L46 and they can't even say what it is. Plus, it's the only one they have...... it would be a pass in my book but that is just me!
Hahahaha, well when I was looking at some L400s, the guy just came up to me and told me about this single unidentified special hypan for ...

Re: Hypan ID
Morning,
I have seen offspring of L 260 looking just like this one, but that doesn't mean a lot.
@bekateen yea it is definitely a hypancistrus just no idea of the L-number!
@acanthicus it would be weird for it to be L260 but at the same time it could make sense. Well thing is, this is the ...

Hypan ID
So one of the local specialty pleco stores stocked an unidentified (according to the staff) rare hypancistrus and I’m tempted to get it but I want to make sure the price tag is justified so any help id-ing it would be great! For context the lighting was yellowish so the picture looks yellow but the ...
