Re: Tank advice needed!
I've got a couple of 2 foot tanks on a plastic trim with a floating base and they have been great tanks for 30 plus years. I would assume there's a maximum size where this design would be advisable though. Test fill it outside and leave it full for a while if you have any doubts!

Re: ID please? By catch with glass catfish
Very true - I've even seen LFS staff do it as a bycatch appears with one lot of fish and it gets transferred to another tank where it looks a bit more like the species being officially sold.
Was just making the point that if it was truly bycatch it can't be the African species.

Re: ID please? By catch with glass catfish
If it's truly bycatch then it'd have to be a big net to catch both at the same time...
(Kryptopterus and allies are Asian whereas the species mentioned are African)
Could it not be another Asian species? Or it's a mix-up at a wholesalers near to the point of sale of course rather than true bycatch.

Forum report not working?
Saw three spam posts this morning and clicked the exclamation mark button to report but got an Error 404 message saying the forum report page can't be found.

Re: Temperate cool water Catfish
According to the profile on here they like water from 17oC to 28oC. I think I saw similar temperatures on ScotCat as well. They are certainly nice and active in their quarantine tank at this temperature as I type. There's a decent current in my main tank for the Opsarius and barbs in there but the S...

Re: Temperate cool water Catfish
I've just bought some Scleromystax barbatus and Megalechis thoracata for my cool tank to go with some albino ancistrus in there already.
At this time of year the tank runs at 18oC.

First flowering for me
Couldn't find a better place to put this. Heard about this but never had it happen, even in high-tech planted tanks, but today I found a flower finally opened on one of my Anubias 'Coffeifolia' in my soft water tank.

Re: Park lake Pleco!
Quite often fish will attack a lure as a territorial response, not just for feeding which could be the case here.characinkid wrote: ↑01 Feb 2024, 19:37 Im really interested in the fact that it was caught on an artificial lure and that it would attack that. Not something that I would ever have imagined they would do.

Re: Swiss Tropicals corner sponge filters
I added k1 to this seaclear uniquarium to get a moving bed filter. Any advice friends. I'm going through old threads so you may have solved this now but I can't tell whether the photo shows your chamber overfilled with media or just with new K1 that does take a while to get 'waterlogged' and fluidi...

Re: K1 & K3 Moving Bed Filter
First advice would be to keep the chamber as clear as possible and use air to circulate the K1. Nothing seems to fluidise it as well as a good rising air stream that moves the K1 away from the water exit. PXL_20240127_215342718.jpg This is my K1 chamber. Water enters rear right and leaves over the w...

Re: Lake Tanganyikan Synodontis ID
Thanks very much. Will get on with some pectoral fin ray counting to determine exactly which fish is which species.

Re: Lake Tanganyikan Synodontis ID
Thanks Kryptic - does that include the darker individual? I haven't seen any photos of grandiops/multipunctatus that look that dark.
Had a slightly nagging feeling the last one might have been a hybrid as it didn't seem to match either species exactly.

Re: Lake Tanganyikan Synodontis ID
Thanks for the reply. I definitely think the shoal comprises at least 2 species, possibly as many as 4. There are 5 I think are grandiops (the paler fish in the first set of photos are these fish). There are then two fish which may be grandiops or multipunctatus. I'm trying to get a decent photo of ...

Managed to get a pictured of the other unsure species.
I think it is either a lucipinnis but not 100% sure.

Lake Tanganyikan Synodontis ID
Hi all, My first post and I'm hoping maybe someone can help. I have a group of 9 synos that were all purchased as multipunctatus in two groups from my LFS. I think they are all actually grandiops apart from two fish that were in the first group I purchased (the fish pictured below and another one I ...
