Which store was this?

Thanks in advance,

Aqua Life in Rocklin. They're still one of my favorites in the Sac area, but that was so frustrating.

Re: Is this a synodontis angelicus?

Not sure how long you've been in the hobby, but most store clerks are there to sell for as much as they can get. It will always fall to you to do your research and know your fish. For the most part, they are just there to sell it to you. It's a rare shop that really wants to learn right along with ...

Re: Is this a synodontis angelicus?

Thanks, both. I expressed my doubts to the LFS guys. One employee was incredibly rude and tried to explain that I was confused, which was incredibly frustrating. The store manager, who knows me by now, was polite but told me I was mistaken and he was positive it was s. angelicus.

I'm hardly an ...

Is this a synodontis angelicus?

I am appropriately embarrassed about the quality of the pic and I understand if it's not good enough to get an ID. This guy is labeled at my LFS. What do you think?

Any clue what made the one attempt successful?

Re: Trying to restart Microsynodontis sp. (1) spawning

Aren't synos hard to breed in captivity? Or is this a variety that breeds successfully?

I breed horses, and I'd love to breed my eupterus if I could figure out how. I probably don't have time to do it justice.

Re: Long time listener, first time caller

Hi @Heck,

Are you attending the Sacramento Aquarium Society meetings in Folsom? If not, I recommend them. The club is very active and lots of good fish go through the auctions.

The next meeting is this Saturday at 3pm, Round Table Pizza on Madison at Greenback (the address is Greenback, but the ...

Re: Long time listener, first time caller

Yeah, it's not a great situation (it was an accident!). They're in a 125 with a lot of hides and I'm crossing my fingers. Not sure how I'll handle it if they get too nasty - Rubbermaid tubs in the short term, I guess.

I'll try for some pics. My glass is scratched to hell which makes it harder.

Re: Horabagrus Brachysoma observation

Should have been clearer there. Bucket, who gets first pick of hides and chooses to be horizontal under floating wood, is a mystus leucophasis (1 of 4).

Re: Horabagrus Brachysoma observation

I have seen Horbagrus and Mystus leucophasis occasionally do this. In my personal experience, all bagrid catfish will choose the PVC that fits most snugly, anything with a large diameter or longer than required is usually ignored. Is the vertical PVC section of a lesser diameter or shorter than ...

Mystus leucophasis is a fish I've always wanted to key - nice collection you've got there.

Re: The hybrid Syno thread

Thanks, Naturalart and Jools. To me this is the biggest anti-hybrid argument - the owner of this fish bought it as a baby "eupterus" and has had it for 5 years believing that's what it was. He posted it in a FB group asking why it's still juvenile colored.

He has not replied to my comment ...

Long time listener, first time caller

41F from California, professional horse rancher. I returned to fishkeeping after a long hiatus, intending to just restart my old 29 gallon with some synodontis nigriventris and maybe Corys, but I was mistakenly sold mystus leucophasis instead of synodontis nigriventris, and things have kinda ...

Horabagrus Brachysoma observation

No idea if anyone else will find this interesting. I also added it to the notes under "my cats," but now I'm wondering if this is a common/known behavior or someone weird.

I have a lot of PVC hides, of which several are T shaped. Some are planted in the gravel so the stem elevates the horizontal ...

Re: "albino" eupterus

Idk, the idea of a mutation like this just popping up - surprise! - still *to me* seems statistically less likely than achieving the pattern and coloring through selective breeding - but I'm definitely coming from a different world and I'm far more familiar with accomplishing something like this ...

Re: "albino" eupterus

If they're all normal in the F1 generation, that just means that it's a recessive gene. So each parent is by logic homozygous for the trait they show, and each F1 offspring is heterozygous. So then of the F2 generation you could simply pick out the ones showing the trait and they'd be homozygous for ...

Some of them seem to mature to a pretty gold shade in the "white" areas. See this guy's video: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DAMbtnLyaxr/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

He says that he has 2 and the other is not gold, and when they were babies they were not different - he did not realize that one would ...

Re: "albino" eupterus

I got one of these this morning as an early Christmas present - I've been drooling over them since I first started seeing photos in May, but couldn't quite bring myself to pull the trigger for various reasons. Santa Claus decided for me 😂

I don't know fish color terminology or genetics, but if ...
