Technically there is a tank mate a little puffer but hes on the other side of a divider, i learned my lesson the first time around

The ones I have now are only 3". I feed them tiny pellets,bloodworms,brine shrimp,flakes and guppies.
I had a pair that went from 4" to 12" w/in a year then gave them to lfs. When the lights go on, one used to play dead by not moving next to a driftwood while the other darted everywhere.

What was the other fish?

It may be that you are confusing young Pangasius with very similar species. Indeed: small offspring can easily be
confused with juvenile Emporer tetras(Nematobrycon palmeri).

I've been seeing lots of baby irridescent sharks in lfs that have ick. Seems like once they attain a certain size, they are hardier

Haven't seen one or read of any. There is an article in shane's world that doesn't approve of any hybrids.

Got mine from a chain pet store "Petland Discount" It would hide in the driftwood and come out to snag a pellet

From my experiences, they are very prone to Ich and other diseases while small and not that hardy.

I had one about 4" w/paroons, jardini and dats. It was always active and ate bloodworms and small silversides. But it didnt' survive the move.
Although the write up is that it attacks tankmates, I never saw any aggression but it was only 4"

How long have you had them? Usually, they get used to the lighting after a while. I have a couple of I.D. sharks they freak out when the lights turn on but then they get accustom to it.

Nope,Blue channel cat is very common and the mouth portion isn't flat. Were talking about duckbill flat. Body is similar to irridescent w/ silver horizontal stripes. Not paroons or columbian sharks either.

What catfish look like a irridescent shark but has a flat head and not active?

Could it be some type of parasite? I have one that grew up to 6" in freshwater before I traded it. Had lots of people argue that they must be in brackish from the start but mine did just fine in FW.
Seen two around 8-12" last yr at a lfs in strictly FW and was eating when fed.

I have a black lancer that was very mellow. It would come out of it's cave to grab food and return. Never seen it attack any of it's tankmates. But then again, it was the smallest.

Try a conchophilus, it looks very similar to the gigas but doesn't grow as big

I have the hypophthalmus,conchophilus, and larnaudii. Yes, they are very skittish but once they are aclimated, they're good to go. As for water changes in temp, there is never a major change in degrees.

Do most Pangasius develop a case of ick more frequent than other fishes? I've had more cases of ick with them than any other species.

I had 2 till they got to 8" then had to give them away. Ate everything that fit in their mouths. All the profiles says they belong in brackish but mine were initally 2" and were healthy all the way through.
Seen 2 at a lfs 12" in fresh water. Owner says you can raise them in fresh and not ...

Have one for about 2yrs now and it's only 3". Grows very slow. As for peaceful, I guess it's playing around when it chases the larger fishes in the tank

I have a planted tank w/driftwood and other "cave" locations. Still prefer vertical next to powerhead. Never seen go anywhere else even w/lights off. Must be active in the middle of the night because I never seen it eat but it's still there.

Mine have been doing it for a year now. It's a quick up for air then right back down. As long as it's not staying up at the surface I'm not concerned.

Was never into Plecos until I found this site to ID the black lancer. Went out and got a 4" Royal and Peppermint for $20 & $19 U.S. How did I do?
Trying to find a zebra pleco but they are very rare at lfs.

Had mine for about 3 months now. It either stays vertical adjacent to the powerhead or intake tube on the filter. Never seen it swim or eat very boring.

Just purchased a Black Lancer recently. It goes about it's own business. So far it's gotten along with all the tankmates:
