Well a green terror is a little less aggressive than your average cichlid but that said ... its still a cichlid. I would suggest looking at the armored cats Callichthyidea: Megalechis or Hoplosternum. my 2¢

I agree with Richard B, S. shoutedeni get a bit big for a 1ft. wide tank. And even though they are pretty and keep their pattern, the are hard on each other, especially in a small tank. Now if you plan on moving to a bigger footprint, then you can start with juvenile shout's and move them to a bigge...

Could be a lot of things, but a few possible crosses are: acanthomias, occellifer,njassae. And the darkness in the fins speaks to a tanganyikan species similar to.

All I can say is that I've kept some of the small, south american Hyphessobrycon species for up to 5+6yrs. And Phacannogramus are a bigger tetra, I would bet they could live longer as larger fish tend to do. Do you know how old they were when you got them? I've never kept Congo's for more than 3yrs ...

If its soft and seem like its filled with fluid could be something like a 'hematoma' from here. If so, clean water and healthy eating, it should dissipate.

There are many different types of synos, and some are piscivorous. My S. waterloti will go for small to medium 'slow water' fish every time. He's a beast. Anything I put in with him as to be fast moving (like a rasbora) or able to defend itself. Otherwise they are lunch.

I guess its possible for an adult to eat a small fish, but these fish are lower level cruisers, feeding off the bottom (think worms, shrimp, algea, aufwuch).
