How about a L136c ?
I honestly can't exclude this possibility 100% without location data or other info, but L136 tend to have a slightly more line-pattern of dots in the fins - even L136c. So I still believe H.contradens is more likely.
May I ask if he had to pay a lot for it compared to i.e ...

Re: Unknown Lori, contaminant on shipment - Hypan?
Hypancistrus contradens don't seem like an unlikely match here. Nevertheless this is probably the most fantastic specimen I've seen. Too bad this kind of pattern/such big spots is not very common.

Unknown Lori, contaminant on shipment - Hypan?
Morning all,
Posting on behalf of a friend, has just picked this up, came as a contaminant with a shipment into an LFS (they can't remember what that shipment was or where it came from)
Any clues, it's might pretty whatever it is.
3 inches TL

Go for it I say.
As and when I leave Dubai, I will quite happily give all my fish to hobbyists save for my L191.
That I would like to donate to the underwater zoo at Dubai Mall so I could see it when I return.

It's not often a Hemi catches my eye over a Panaque but that L128 is superb

A fully grown male L204, was a nasty piece of work, I had to rehome it in the end.

I have never had Panaque eat Anubias or Java fern, L27c, L191, L104 and L204 all left them alone

Fair enough, I didn't approach google just assumed it was an error, nonsensical even considering it is a common name.

Nice set up and handsome panaque.
I would be keeping a reef tank in Dubai. Many of my favorite reef fish and animals are found in the Red Sea area.
Thanks, I simply don't have the time to do a salt water set up justice at the moment, hopefully that will change.

Oh well, picked up 2 more and they have disappeared to the depths of the tank to fatten up.
Confident that they are at least Ancistrus so will be happy for life in their current set up, will wait and see if anyone has any further thoughts on species.

Difficult to say what it is.
I'm not sure if this species [well, we don't even know which species it actually is yet!] is one of those where both sexes get bristles, or just males.

Lori ID, think Ancistrus sp Ucalayi
Just found a bunch of these lurking at the back of a tank with a Gibby in.
My best guess would be Ancistrus ucayali but having never kept them I can't be sure.
Note the lip bristles, male?
I only got one, I may go back later and get some more, I've dropped it into the big tank now, will no doubt ...
