Just an update. I went to England for a month with my son in charge. When I got back - 1 week ago - the gibbies fin is perfectly healed.

Here is my question . Do their fins grow out like our fingernails ? That is the only way I could think of that the fin could heal. And so fast ?

Split Dorsal

My Sailfin Pleco ( Gibbiceps) is about 2 years old and has shared his tank with some Hoplos for 8 months now. They get on well together - the gibby chases them away from his food area.

This morning I noticed his sailfin is split top to bottom !

Has this happened to any one else and will he ...

I cleaned out all the old eggs but had lost 6 of the fry ( dead) . I put a clean breeder into the cory tank and transferred the two remaining fry. I am alternating with a little microworm and a little bbs and touch wood they seem to be responding.

Obviously trying to hatch them and then rear them ...

Just an update

I now can see about 8 small fry on the floor of the breeder - sometimes swimming up a little way. It has been 6 days since I put the eggs in the breeder and there are still eggs around. I am still treating with anti fungus ( just 2 drops daily) is this ok ?

Thanks

I have just put another batch of eggs in the breeder and I will wait 4 days after hatching before feeding. I have baby brine shrimp for my guppies so I will try that.

I will let you know how it goes

Breeding Corydoras Aneaus

Can anyone offer me any help.

I can succesfully get my group of bronzes to lay eggs. I then remove the eggs to a floating breeder in the Cory tank. I add a few drops of fungus killer and can get the eggs to hatch. But I cannot get the young to live more than a few days. I feed from day one with ...

Magnum

I should have been clearer - the tank mates I am thinking of are my two hoplos. The filter is an eheim 2210 with a filtration of 550 l/h. Big for the tank but the gibby is pretty messy. The substrate is small gravel.

Tank mates for a gibby

I am moving my gibby from a community tank to his own tank. He is still only about 6" long and I am moving him into his own 30" x 15" x 15".( I know he will need a new one soon ).

He has always been with two hoplo's that are now about 3" long each. I dont want him to be all on his own so am ...

Thanks for that.

The fish is still quite young so the spots could yet join up - in which case it will be a dead ringer for the trilineatus in the book.

I'm not overly worried because I like the fish but what happened to the trade descriptions act. Any LFS owners out there like to comment ?

Julii vs trilineatus

I recently bought a cory that the LFS swore was a Julii , But when I got home I looked it up in David Sands book and he states that Julii sold in this country are normally trilineatus.

To tell the truth the fish looks more like his picture of the trilineatus for the strpes and more like the julii ...

Can i mix different types of cory and if so what ...

Thanks for the welcome . From what I have seen it is a gibby. The Sail is as high as it's head is long.

Nice to be in such a helpful and friendly site.

I saw some golden plecos for sale today - each about 5" long - any comments

G. gibbiceps

I have the following in my community tank One G. gibbiceps ( 3 ") , 2 Hoplo cats and 4 small bronze cory's.

All used to get on fine but lately, at mealtimes, the gibby comes out of its cave and lays claim to all the substrata available - bundling every other feeding fish out of the way. Is this ...

Hi

Malta here. I worked in Norway for several years and am pleased to see that König Löwe
exhibits the " live and let live" traits the Norwegians are justly famous for.

Hi all
my name is Colin and I live in Malta.

I have recently found this site while searching for info on a catfish I have. It was sold as a "Royal Sailfin Pleco" - he could have said his royal highness and I would have known no better.

From the catalogue it looks like the gibby but also looks like ...
