Re: My First Planted Tank - Juwel Rio 125

This tank is still going but not with the same scape, it was rescaped in early 2011! Still went on for a little while: http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/7130/p1000732s.jpg But after a heater incident that basically boiled the whole contents of the tank, I had no choice but to start again, and now d...

Well the tank is still going without a rescape, just keeps evolving from one to the next, here the latest photo taken yesterday: http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/8831/pict0302c.jpg Took the opportunity to make a video also: http://vimeo.com/13137723 Some older photos of the tank, fauna and flora: ...

Re: My Shrimp Only Tank - Cherry and CRS

I have been trying for 18 months, and had about 40 grade S shrimplets, then had a problem with the tank and lost them all. So not sure if I will try them again, spent a lot of cash on them. I am thinking about trying other shrimp species, got some delivered two weeks ago but most arrived dead :( Tod...

Re: My Shrimp Only Tank - Cherry and CRS

that surprises me... i thought these shrimp liked soft water. And I wonder why the chlorine in the tap water hasn't wiped out your stock and killed the bacteria in your filters. What size water changes and how frequent? I perform 50-60% water changes once every couple of weeks. I have been doing th...

Re: My Shrimp Only Tank - Cherry and CRS

hmm good point. probably a good idea to have a larger tank in that case. aren't shrimp very sensitive to water parameters? Larger is better off course, like I said your 72l would be ideal ;) Hi Londondragon, You might have a convert here... I'm really impressed with your tank. So can you tell us th...

Re: My Shrimp Only Tank - Cherry and CRS

The problem with Crystals in a nano is that they don't like high temps and a nano tank heats up pretty quick to room temperature of higher in the summer, you would need a fan to keep the temps around 24ºC.

I did have some Crystals but an attack of planaria wiped them out :(

Re: My Shrimp Only Tank - Cherry and CRS

Hi Shamrock, It all depends on what type of shrimp you want to keep, but that 72 litre is perfect for any kind of shrimp you want to keep. If you want to keep Cherries then they are easy and hardy shrimp, they do well in most types of water and also various temps 18-30ºC I am now keeping shrimp in 1...

Re: My First Planted Tank - Juwel Rio 125

I try to keep the diffusers in the shade so I'm only cleaning them once a month, but yeah, that's a pain. There's a GB on those inline diffusers right now in my local aquarist forum. I think I might give one a try, based on your success with them. Was using this one before ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/C...

Re: My First Planted Tank - Juwel Rio 125

Ah...ok, that's what a lot of the local planted tanks guys have gone to also. I personally still use ceramic diffusers in the tank and "mist" the CO2 with Koralia powerheads. I used to do that aswell, but since I have upgraded my filters to something that does 1500lph there is no need to ...

Its only a Juwel Rekord 60, 60cm wide and 54 liters! you are very good with plants. And no CO2 you said. What kind of lights are on that tank?...

Re: My Shrimp Only Tank - Cherry and CRS

Just a quick update, the first lot that bred are about half a cm in size now and I have seen about 6-7 of them at the same time in the tank so things are looking good, today I spotted some more tiny 1mm red/white CRS. But also spotted 3-4 Black CRS, so I now have the Red and Black Crystals breeding ...

nvcichlids wrote:can I ask what TPN iS
TPN+ stands for Tropica Plant Nitrution Plus, its a commercial all in one aquarium plant fertelizer.
nvcichlids wrote:Edit: how many cherry shrimp could I keep in a 5.5 gallon tank?
I have a holding tank for cherries which is about that size where I keep around 100 cherries at a time.
