Hypancistrus sp. "Platinum" aka "Corroncho Plata"
Hi, famous importer Mimbon Aquarium has imported a new kind of Hypancistrus. http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQYB4K8K0UCTIa_AX_0gWEgAGiefjDFn3SnAUIWzOHxwdyGdkSBIg Please visit the Homepage of Mimbon: http://www.mimbon.de/archives/869 This variant looks like L 340 type, but the pattern is gre...

Hi, it could be a lower Xingu variant. This is a girl for your boys ;-) http://i787.photobucket.com/albums/yy154/chromapark/Hypancistrus_gurupa_03.jpg I have a pair, found between an import of L 66, two years ago. Nice looking fry. Hypancistrus sp. "Gurupa" isn't well described. There is o...

Re: L-173b from Glaser
Hi, today I visited Aquarium Glaser, and asked them about the "b" in L 173b. So here comes the official version: They sell typical marked german tank raised L 173 with this L-Number. Only a few per year. L 173 with an untypical marking, but from the same parents, are offered as L 173b with...

Re: L-173b from Glaser
Hi, sorry to say. But something went wrong. I have to say that the price is very high for L173. I have visited Glaser sometimes and I have seen L 173b. They are beautyful fishes in best condition. As I wrote in another posting, L 173 is very variable but usually easy to identify as semiadult and adu...

Re: L-173b from Glaser
Hi, don't get me wrong, but why do you think these fish are 173b from Aquarium Glaser? Do you get them directly? Problem is - none of these fish shows any typical characteristic of L 173. That does not mean, that they are not L 173, but I would be very disapointed if I get this kind of fish for such...

Re: Hypancistrus ID, inspector?
Hi, difficult to say. I think it is Hypancistrus contradens. Could be a pair. Usually the spots of H. contradens have all the same size. They are very sharp. The dots of L 201 tend do get dark yellow (sometimes brown) in the neck region. Bodyshape is also different. H. contradens gets much bigger an...

hi,
just grow them. With a TL of 70mm please ask again. Adult Hypancistrus are difficult to identify, at this size it's just impossible. Sorry to say: First picture could be L 66, L400 or some similar Hypancistrus. Second picture is different, could be L 236, but also L 333 or something else.

Re: ID new Hypancistrus, thanks
Hi, nice Hypancistrus! Are they wildcaught ore tankbreed? They look typical for Hypancistrus sp. L66 youngsters. Time will tell, in this age it's hard to say. Taking pictures in a blue painted tank is not a good idea for identifying. The body color looks white, even when the fish are dark yellow or ...

Re: L287 or L066?
Hi, that is why i post the "full" name of my fish. Perhaps the "Glaser 2007" tag leads to someone with the same fish. Sharing of fresh blood between breeding groups will be easier and the risk of hybrids is lower. @bob i think a detroyed sanity is a basic requirement to keep worm...

Re: L287 or L066?
Hi, difficult to say. But I think your fish are untypical L 66. First: L 287 is not a valid L-Number. The magazine DATZ introduced L 287 in december 2000. But this introduction was from the beginning problematic. Only one fish was imported with L74, a panaqolus species from Rio do Para. But does tha...

Re: L66 breed almost all have damaged pectoral fins
Hello, usually this kind of deformation occurs, because of bacteria infecting the fry. But it is uncommon, that all of them shows this deformation. Please tell, what you do to avoid bacteria infection. Perhaps, something goes wrong. Keep in Mind, that the first days, young hypancistrus need very goo...

Re: Bought as L173, maybe L66 or L333 white band?
Hello,
please consider hybrids to specify this fish. In my opinion it could be a mixture between L 400 and L 333. Problem is, they are not as nice as usual l-400 and l-333. I have visited several shops in Germany - hybridization is getting a big problem for Hypancistrus.

Re: Urgent ID needed- is this L173
Hi, perhaps Aquarium Glaser, not Glacier. But near by doesn't mean from! Some L 46 have wavy lines, very rare, but also if you bread them 1 of hundred could show this pattern. L 173 is seperated from L 46, gets bigger and shows a very variable pattern. L 173 could show this markings, but also shows ...

Re: Urgent ID needed- is this L173
Hi, this fish (with wavy lines) is very untypical for Hypancistrus zebra and very close to fish usually sold as L 173. Bodyshape fits more to L 173. The quality of the picture is to bad, so I can't make a decision. But be careful. If this is a male, you will need females, and they are extremely rare...

Hi,
they look like L 400, but they don't look very pretty to me. Some of L 400 are very stunning fish, lots of white with black markings. These are more grey without contrast.

Hi,
it is difficult to identify your fish. Your pictures dont't show the whole fish. I think the first picture shows Hypancistrus furunculus (L 199) - the second one shows a Peckoltia species, no hypancistrus. So something went wrong!

Re: ID me. Hypancistrus sp.
Hi, hard to say. But I think it is L 400. They are very variable, and L 400 could be an absolute stunning beauty. In my opinion - all these new imported fish comes around Belo Monte. That means - L 287, L 400, L 399 mixed. Perhaps some L 236, but this type is very hard to distance from other variant...

There are some very small imports als well in germany.

Hi, when L 400 and L 399 are adult, it is not very difficult. L 400: - Long and flat head, looks like a long nose - stays smaller - shorter fins - smaller eyes - typical pattern are dots (wormlines often) - males show massive odontodes all over the body more related to L 174 Type L 399: - short head...

Hi, sorry, but I hope this is just a mistake. New Pictures for Hypancistrus sp. (L287) shows some fish I know as (perhaps not "real") L 236. Origin of these fish is Aquarium Glaser, they are sold as L 236. Perhaps they are not "real" L236. But that doesn't mean, that they are L 2...
