Lamontichthys filamentosus

I have the opportunity to to purchase some Lamontichthys filamentosus and I'm wondering if anyone on here has any experience with this species that would be willing to share any tips on keeping them?

Thanks

Re: Lamontichthys Filamentosus -temp and water conditions?

That's interesting reading.

It seems this family has not been explored much, in aquaria.

I'll see how it goes with a single specimen and if it goes well, I'll look to get some more. So far... it's pooing like there's no tomorrow! :-O

Poo is good, means it's eating something. Mine had severe ...

Re: Lamontichthys Filamentosus -temp and water conditions?

That's very helpful Matt, thank you.

I have a single specimen in a tank that has algae and I'm trying to obtain the soilent green food. In the meantime I'm experimenting with other foods.

My water is probably too warm for this fish longterm, at 27c, but maybe that's why I've managed to avoid ...

Re: Lamontichthys Filamentosus -temp and water conditions?

I just got some fish in as Lamontichthys filamentosus , but I believe I have Lamontichthys llanero and possibly one other. I'm keeping them at room temperature in a floor tank around 75, PH 7.2 TDS around 180. I had to use Repashy "soilent green" with garlic extract poured over driftwood to get them ...

Re: Saw this at LFS in their show tank.. ID please?

It is a Lamontichthys , thats for sure, and specie are probably llanero or filamentosus .

I think the Lamontichthys llanero mostly are shipped from Colombia, and the Lamontichthys filamentosus mostly comes from Peru.

I also find the Lamontichthys llanero much easier to keep than Lamontichthys ...

Re: Lamontichthys llanero tank setup?

In the wild, Lamontichthys llanero doesn't need much water depth. Just current. I collected juveniles in only a few inches of water.

Also be careful of buying from different batches. While the Maracaibo species isn't exported AFAIK, the other 3 congeners are. L. filamentosus is easy as has long ...

Lamontichthys filamentosus is a very nice, rare fish with extremely long extensions. It is hard getting them to spawn.

Re: ID pl*co

Yes I have kept Lamontichthys filamentosus and they are a lovely fish, they can be hard to start feeding in the beginning and are one of the more sensitive species I have had. First food I would recomend small crustaceans like Daphina, Cyclops or froozen Artemia (Brine Shrimp), also feed them tablet ...

Opinions/Suggestions on Breeding Lamontichthys Filamentosus

As some of you already know last summer I recieved half a shipment of L. Filamentosus w/ the other half going to another club member, who unfortunatly lost all his by the 2nd month. Well with the shape they came in from Peru (Very aenemic) and they're disapproval of nearly every food offered, I've ...
