Re: How aggressive are hoplos?
I've lost three more hoplos and four cories. I don't think the hoplos are to blame for the cory deaths. I do, however, think that the cories needed a longer QT time, because it was only after they were added, a few weeks later, that the hoplos started up with the aggression, and their wounds got inf...

Re: FIGHTING: NEED ADVISE (Megalechis thoracata)
How are the hoplos doing now? I've lost two of mine since the breeding season apparently started this week. I'm hoping I don't lose more, but at this rate I might have to rehome them anyway.

Re: How aggressive are hoplos?
Working on a clear photo, the tank has been getting lots of water changes as of late. Oh, no, I don't have any L14; I was going to purchase 3 or so to add to this tank later, but everything I read said that those plecos are very territorial. Since hoplos generally aren't, after seeing the damage the...

Re: How aggressive are hoplos?
I do have to say I am reconsidering L14s now, since all reports state that those plecos are highly aggressive to each other. If hoplos can get like this, I shudder to think what even small L14s can do!

Status report: one hoplo found dead tonight. Nipped dorsal fin and stomach area had some gashes across it.

Re: How aggressive are hoplos?
Unless the cats can fly, it wasn't furry felines.
Perhaps the hoplos were being very pushy with the Repashy, but nothing else in the tank, aside from perhaps the Congo tetras nipping fins, could do this kind of damage.

Re: How aggressive are hoplos?
Just did a nice 50% water change. Found another of my large 7 inchers with no dorsal fin and a rather punched-in looking mouth. This might not be aggression then, but I don't see any spots, worms, blood streaks, etc. Also, forgot to mention but there are about 10 Congo tetras in the tank, but I doub...

How aggressive are hoplos?
So I have some hoplo littorale in my 90 gallon tank, with some bristlenose plecos, assassin snails, bronze cories, and a lone tatia intermedia. And I've been feeding some new Repashy foods and doing more water changes since there are times I overfeed. And I come home today to find three of my hoplos...

Simple thing I do to sink zucchini: don't boil it, just stick a fork in it and let it sink.
However make sure it isn't your mom's good cutlery or she will be very mad. Not that I know about this.

I'd just like to add that Mike Hellweg is an awesome guy; he was a speaker for us at a killifish convention and he's rather down to earth and humble, even when signing books. Is there any good way to sex L brevispinis other than just waiting for the fry to show up? Will they use bamboo caves if one ...

55 growout-can mix plecos?
In my 55 gallon tank, I currently have a breeding pair of blue eyed bristlenose, some of their fry, and a few common whiptails. I'm having an issue in setting up a new tank for my L201s, that are currently about three inches long. No idea on the genders, but there's six of them, and I'd like to add ...

I can't find a size for this hara in the Cat-elog, but I have Hara jerdoni (or at least that is what they were sold to me as) in a tank with red cherry shrimp culls, and I've never noticed a drop in population to the point I worry. Should be fine, unless your fish is large enough to eat adults!

Re: Red lizard eggs
Got any pics of the breeding tank? I recently picked up 2 males and 3 females, and they're in a 20 with sand and some fake plants, driftwood and slate, and a metric ton of red cherry shrimp. I've read different opinions on temperature; some breeders say to keep it in the low 80's and with a powerhea...

Why to always quarantine
So if you're anything like me, a sale on fish gets the wallet going. And when Petsmart dropped their cory prices to $1 each for this month, I was stoked: finally a chance to increase my cory school! Well, a chance to get about 10 or 15 rather than add one or two. It's hard to justify to mom why you ...

Re: Young pleco won't eat. Help?
Unfortunately some animals seem to be born as 'culls.' I've had a few baby ball pythons and sand boas refuse any and all foods and die despite treatmet (force feeding is often worse than not). Also have had a few tortoises die after hatching for no clear reason. Sometimes there is really nothing you...

Re: Help with Vivarium/Terrarium for Vampire Crabs
I've had vampires twice, and unfortunately the second time I suspect they were wild caught and died. The first batch was right after they first came on the market, so info on them was slim.
I've read that their care is similar to dart frogs. Brian's Tropicals has some good info on them.

Re: assassin snails and pleco eggs?
The few times my cories have spawned, I removed all the eggs I could. The ones I couldn't were eaten quickly by the cories themselves, and perhaps the assassins.
I've never seen an assassin get any pleco eggs unless they were booted from the cave.

I got 3 from PetZoneSanDiego and three from a local guy who was getting rid of his. He said there was at least one female, but I guess not!
