Do they all have a blunt, short snout? It may be a photographic optical illusion, but in your first photo, the front-most fish in the bag appears to have a longer snout.

Information about "Registered Keepers" in CLOG
This isn't a report of a CLOG data issue, but more a question about how part of the CLOG works: When reading the Registered Keepers of any particular species, there are five pieces of information presented. A hypothetical entry might look like this: (14) bekateen (p: 2, k: 5), who also notes: "...

@MatsP, from the H. guahiborum CLOG, you have reported owning more of these pretty fish than anyone else. What is your experience with them, in general and especially with regard to the questions above?
Thanks, Eric

Ok, thanks Racoll and Johannes. ... So @Racoll, what does cucha mean? No idea. Fishermen in these places can make up many silly/strange/nonsensical names for fishes. For example, L066 and L260 are called "bread" in Brazil. No idea why. Because they are common perhaps? You inspired me to go...

Okay, thank you.
... So @Racoll, what does cucha mean?
And do you have any perspective to offer on the observation that these plecos live at 88F? Will Centomochlus perugiae like it that hot, or even close to that (e.g., even 85F)?
Cheers, Eric

If you just got the tank last night, remember everything you went through in the beginning about starting the nitrogen cycle. Newly setup tanks are very dangerous. If you have any gravel or sand in the old container, transfer that into the new tank without washing it. And move over the old filter sy...

Re: What can you tell me about Hemiancistrus guahiborum, L106?
I'm certainly no student of South American languages, but L106 is named after the Guahibo tribe. Some of the indigenous people in this area (e.g. the Yanomami) traditionally live in a very distinctive type of circular fort-village. Perhaps the Guahibo tribe is named after the type of house they liv...

Regarding new aquarium shopping, it never hurts to ask the management. You might try two approaches: (1) Go to your LFS (not a chain like Petco/PetSmart) and remind him of what you've been doing all this time, then see if they would offer you any special pricing. Or (2) Go to PetSmart and try the sa...

Hi Johannes, That is a very nice looking male. In my opinion, don't worry about the appearance of the pectoral fins (if your concern is that they look kind of "wing-like," similar to the pectorals on some banjo cats). I noticed that when I photographed my males and females in air, their pe...

It was the challenge of sexing that led me to end up with 7 clowns, instead of 3-5. I suspected that my first was a big female. The next two I bought were too young to sex confidently, but I tried to pick 1 M and 1 F. If you read my thread about sexing clown plecos (http://www.planetcatfish.com/foru...

Would it be possible to start with one or two and add the others (a few days) later or is it better to introduce the whole group to the aquarium at once to avoid territorial issues? I also think that this looks like pre-spawning behaviour rather than fighting. Given that it's the males that do the brood care it is not that surprising maybe that they can be choosy when it comes to females. I agree with your point that male mate choice could very likely be occurring here. I supp...

For plecos, I am sure to lay some pieces of slate on top the sand to sit the pleco caves on so they don't become buried in the sand. Good advice.
