Re: Looking for Akysis vespa/portellus
I just put some bloodworm in and they weren't cooperating! Below is a video of the tank from last year which you can see them in. The smallest is around 30mm SL and the largest 65mm SL, most are a sandy base colour, but some of the smaller, slimmer ones are more orangey. Some also have a speckled pa...

Re: Looking for Akysis vespa/portellus
Hi, I have a group of 24 Akysis portellus, they are great little fish, so much fun to watch especially when there is food about. I'm in the UK and have only seen them in a shop once, but honestly never looked for them except the time I was told about them by the shop I got them from! I suspect they...

My largest fish, 16 to 18 inch TL, so about 12 inch SL, L095, just get Repashy Igapo Explorer, about a 2x1x1 inch chunk each most days. They happily pick up bits left over from feeding other fish in their tank, various pellets and occasionally bloodworm. They also seem to graze the oak bogwood as th...

Re: Marc's fish room build
Hi Everyone, It's been a while since much has happened in the fish room. Over the weekend my group of Corydoras(ln9) loxozonus spawned for the first time, I've had them for 6 years, and they were adults when I bought them! From some previous conversations I thought they would only spawn in a mop, bu...

Re: Breeding l 82
Very nice! I kept a group of 8 juveniles which I got from a local breeder a few years ago. Unfortunately I'm now left with 1, I have a feeling that once they get a little larger than the ones in your video, they can become very aggressive/territorial with each other, I'd find a dead one once a week ...

Agree with Eric, from the in water shots I see one which I would be confident is a female.
So at least you should have a mix for a breeding group.
Good luck with them.

Re: How would you heat small fish room?
Another set it up and see recommendation here. I have a single linear piston air pump on a ring, the piping of the ring gets warm from the friction of the air, there is a single sump pump for my large tank, and a basic dehumidifier. As well as a handful of low powered LED lights and small powerheads...

Re: Starting a fishroom
Thanks for the update, sorry to hear you lost a fish which meant a lot to you. Looks like you'll have a nice space there, as you mention there will be noisy/dusty tools in there will you be putting up a stud wall or partition? I'd recommend insulating it as best you can. It'll really help with the h...

I wanted to be there, but travel from the UK isn't allowed until November 1st! Hopefully I'll make it to CatCon in Virginia next year at my second attempt, then Cataclysm the following, as things stand, the CSG convention is planned for March next year that'll be my first event for a long time! Purely based on body shape, I'd say the two smaller fish are more likely to be female than the two bigger ones! They are tricky ones to figure out, good luck with them!

Good idea, I bought some koi spawning mops, about 5-6 inch diameter and 4 feet long a while back, they just collected a lot of detritus so I took them out and forgot about them.
Now you have reminded me, I'll give them another try!

A bit more activity from the A. magoi, I've still not witnessed anything myself, but it looks like a male has been trying to hold this this female, some damage at the base of the dorsal and scrapes down her side. The picture was taken about 2 days ago and the damage has already healed completely. Si...

Re: Best way to grow out fry
I have found that crowding/competition slows down growth rates too, if you have the space, try to separate out the fish by size, it'll help the smaller ones get to the food before it's all gone, and in my experience has helped to at least even out growth rates, and I believe, also improve them. When...

Hi Everyone, Nothing exciting to report, but wanted to suggest that my power backup system has probably paid for itself now! Hi, rainbows would be fine with L134, just ensure that the tank size is suitable for the adult size of the rainbows you plan to get. Corys should also be ok, especially pygmy types. A word of warning on woodcats, I know they are different types, but a few years back a Centromochlus schultzi which I ...

Hi Jools, When I ordered it, I noticed the delivery was 16.50 EUR, up from 3 or 4 EUR before I put in my address, and was labelled as "Tax-exempt export delivery", I'm hopeful that means as VAT isn't charged on books there shouldn't be anything else to pay. As I understand it for goods und...

That is a smartphone! It's one of my favourite tanks to watch, the decoration is simple, but looks good and seems to achieve my desired look of a hillstream. In the tank is sand, rounded pebbles/cobbles, two bits of wood, then a couple of each Anubis and Bolbitus. Beyond putting the plants towards t...

Re: When can I tell the sex of my blue phantom im getting tomorrow
Good to hear it's settled in well. In my experience they are slow growers, at least in captivity, I'd guess it's be a couple years before you could take a guess at the sex. I've not kept them singily before, so I'm not sure if that'd impact ability to sex them. I'm thinking males might need a bit of...

Hi Eric,
If the reports I've read are accurate it looks like sometime in June I'd get the first dose, I believe in the UK we are still waiting around 12 weeks between doses, so sometime in September maybe for the second dose.
Fingers crossed things go smoothly and we can travel to events soon .
