well this thread has inspired me to replace much of the gravel in my display tank with sand, so yesterday I went to the local hardware / building supplies center and picked up a couple of bags of sand. There were a few different sorts - mostly 'brickie's sand' in white, yellow and red shades, but th...

Thanks for the replies everyone. To be fair to the lfs, I do not think it was identified when imported at the time and that has to be close to 10 years ago. Interesting, while looking through the Pekoltia list in cat-elog I came across Peckoltia cavatica which appears to be another I had a single sp...

What is F.A.M.A. Magazine like these days? I've not read a copy for many years but when I was younger it was a great source of information.

Datz I've also heard very good things about but not seen a copy (not that I can read German...).

I'd get more bronze cats, all corys look better in groups and will probably be happier with their own kind. I've noticed the corys I have in groups of only 2 or 3 tend to stick together when they are at rest.

I used to have a tank with a sand-pit in a quite corner for the Brochis & Corys I had at the time. It was only 1/2" to 1" deep, same depth as the gravel in the rest of the tank, so there was never any danger of it going anerobic - certainly not with all the digging the cats did! In any...

Snowball's driftwood tank

Here's a few pics of my tank and its inhabitants. It's 4' x 2' x 18" high (320l) and will hopefully be replaced with a 4' x 2' x 30" in the not too distant future :) Lighting is a single 125W metal halide; filtration is done by a trickle filter with an Eheim 1250 plus a 2215 double cannist...

I'd be more worried about the two synodontis fighting! S. eupterus are fairly peaceful but in my experience S. Anegelicus can be somewhat agressive. however I don't think either would bother the Botia sidthimunki, they are fast and smart enough to get out of the way. I have kept a pair of large Boti...

I recently got a number of C. Adolfi and B. Splendens that were supposedly wild caught (I'm pretty sure they are, quite a range in size). Both species started eating dry food immediately; Hikari Sinking Wafers & Algae Wafers as well as Sera Viformo tablets & GVG flake. This is supplimented w...

C. julii have lots of individual spots on their forehead whereals on C. trilineatus they are joined lines & squiggles. I've not seen any true julii for a long time, those I see sold as such today are all trilineatus . They could well be the same species caught from different parts of the river,...

Thanks for the quick replies. They do appear to resemble H. inspector , although my specimens are certainly more golfball shaped than any of the ones in those photos. Perhaps mine are just fat and old? Here's a few more pics, I'll try to get some better ones in the morning. http://img328.imageshack....

ID this pleco - sold as a 'snowball'

I've had three of these little beasties for a few years, never managed to find out what they are. They were sold to me as 'Snowballs' They are approximately 4" in size.

Can anyone tell me what is the genus & species?
