Re: Anyone able to ID this pleco.
I do not expect that the lack of wood in its past diet will cause a problem as long as you are simultaneously offering a diversity of foods, some wood and some easier-to-digest foods. The only real problem I could envision, and this is not a guarantee that it would happen, is that if the animal had ...

Stating the obvious, but your photos are a little blurry. Is the mouth right for Panaqolus? Is it ? The off color may be stress.

Re: Should I use an RO system?
What I'm about to say is not based on experience but on classroom/textbook info: I was under the impression that gases like O2 and CO2 we're not osmotically active and thus wouldn't be affected in RO systems. That said I do know that distilled water systems will degas the water during the boiling st...

Re: Live tips to save cory eggs
Okay, so I came home today and found a small clump of fresh cory eggs in my community tank. Probably aeneus, but could be trilineatus, C141, or ambiacus (the latter would be a first for me, so not likely). Anyway I picked out 40 eggs and divided them evenly into two plastic containers in 1.5 cm dept...

Re: New Job!
Thinking of why you got chewed out for trying to redirect the customer, and the notion you mention that your store knows it needs to make big changes, then maybe what both your boss and you would benefit from is a really good "sit down" together, to discuss where the boss wants to take the...

Re: New Job!
Teresa, what's ironic about your advice is that in my area, bristlenoses are as expensive or more expensive than common plecos (pardalis and gibbiceps). A 6 inch common pleco can sell for $15-20, and a 4-5 inch adult (sexable) BN will be over $20 in many local stores (most of my LFS don't carry adul...

Hi Teresa, Sorry to learn that you're having such a negative experience. While I'm curious to know what exactly are the bad practices of the store, frankly I don't need to know and it's probably just as well that you keep those kinds of details private, out of respect for the business (even if the b...

Re: Explainations of the blog points system works.
I believe, and I'd like to expect, that it's the number of completed fields that determines points, not the length of the narrative answers or the number of food items beyond "one." If it was by length of answers, Heck, given that I'm so long-winded on the narrative answers, I should have ...

Re: Sexing Panaqolus maccus? Spawning at last!
UPDATE: The oldest babies reached 6 months old this week, so I tore their tank apart and collected them all for a nice photo shoot. Of all the fry, between 30 and 40 have survived to this age (I had almost 50 back in November); not great survival in the parent tank, but not bad. The oldest and large...

Three more errors associated with BLOG edits
Hi Jools, I'm sorry to tell you this right after you fixed up the BLOG pages, but I was updating my BLOG for Panaqolus maccus tonight and I found a few problems - one a coding problem, one with images, and one simply a word substitution: Coding problem: When I click on the "Edit" button fo...

Re: L397 Rescpe and Tank clean in progress. Some advice?
Hi Teresa, If you're dealing with repeated rounds of increased aggression between tank mates, while you're trying to condition them to spawn, it would seem to me that rearranging their tank too often might only cause too much stress. I would think that you should either accept the aggression if it i...

I'm still waiting for my male, whom I bought with bristles already developed and whom I've had for almost exactly a year now, to develop bifurcate (spit) bristles. He's fathered multiple times, but still has only bristles formed as single strands.
