Astroblepus sp(p) and diet

Hello all. Very nice pictures of a very nice fish Corysrs! Thanks for sharing them with us. Silurus used the name Astroblepus grixalvii as a potential for the pictured species and the illustration of this fish that I have at hand is certainly quite close to the fish in the photos. But, there are a n...

some cetopsid feeding

Hello Birger, In that I kind of started the cetopsid topic off with my November COTM (Helogenes) entry, I figured that I'd make a little reply to your post. I am sure that HH can also follow up. A good term for the cetopsids that will take chunks out of other fishes (or eat their way inside) would b...

Hemicetopsis

Hi Jool and all.

Jools you might not want to move all Hemicetopsis back to Cetopsis just yet. Some of the Hemicetopsis are now placed in Cetopsis, but others are now in the genera Cetopsidium and Denticetopsis (Vari, Ferraris and de Pinna, 2005). If you need a listing let me know.

Hi Jools and Grahams,

Jools: Your point is well taken - and understood. It can be well to easy to get into a tight squeeze without the proper caution. Have a great vacation!

Grahams: The trip to FL was great. Thanks again for getting the permissions to use the pictures as you did.

Hello Sidguppy and all. I have followed your posts on your experiences with Phyllonemus. You are definitely on the right path! I, like you, will be very interested to see what some of these new species look like once they are described. A confirmation of the large size that you mention would definit...

Phyllonemus - things to come

Hello all. While I am putting in a couple of posts there is one more thing that I thought would be worth mentioning. It is not exclusive, as you can find some mention of it on the internet. But in that I was recently in contact with one of the people working on the genus Phyllonemus, and he gave me ...

Hi all. Here I am Paul..thanks for the little kick. Re the use of "chicken" eggs as fishfood: This does go WAY back. In 1833 there was a business in Canton, MA [USA, southwest of Boston] that produced goldfish food for retail sale. The ingredients? The food consisted of "...a mixture ...
