Re: How long does plecos sit on eggs?

Cancel the party, egg/fry are gone no idea what happened this morning when I woke up he had simly left the cave and there are none in there. Maybe the female eating them thing happened since I have seen atleast 2 females sitting around the cave more often than not. Or the male is just not experienc...

Re: Trafficking of ornamental fishes from Brazil

And here I thought, naively?, that the aquarium trade helps perserve areas that would otherwise be burnt down like the rest. I am just a dumb dork with a computer on the other side of the world though but don't really wish to be part of eradicating animals from the wild. Although I believe it's pret...

Re: How long does plecos sit on eggs?

I suppose that doing less is sometimes the best option and that I am just overthinking(quite obsessive with it at the moment but guess that's to be expected from first spawn?), I have set up a little floating cage in the maintank and will try to move fry there once I see that the male lose interest....

Re: How long does plecos sit on eggs?

I have investigated now(held the cave up towards light so that I could see into it) and there are definitely eggs if not fry(saw some rather large orange looking things but was hard to determine if it was eggs or the yolk sacks), hard to see since the male blocked most of it and I didn't want to hol...

Re: How long does plecos sit on eggs?

Great input with lots of good information and fun tidbits, think my male also had a second interested female on the day it happened but doubt he could handle two, let alone three in an hour haha. He seems to be able to keep others out of the cave for now though. The male is still in the cave but I h...

Re: How long does plecos sit on eggs?

Thanks guys, I will gamble and just let them do their thing I think, the male seems dedicated enough. If I see fry(I have not seen anything but the male is not coming out of cave ever, not even for his favorite food and I can see him moving fins all the time) I might try to move the cave into a bree...

Re: How long does plecos sit on eggs?

My L397 take about 6 days to hatch at 81-85F (https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/my_blog.php?task=show&id=1166&username=bekateen&species_id=1847#1166). Then at least week or so to use up their yolks. Typically, I wait until the fry are 4-5 days post-hatching (so they have some yolk le...

Re: How long does plecos sit on eggs?

@stuby Thank you, I suppose they have been hatched for a week or so if that's the case, tank is kept at 27 degrees but might have been warmer depending on weather at times. Would you advise me to move the cave+male to a small tank/breederbox? They are with a group of L397s, Sterbai corys and an anci...

How long does plecos sit on eggs?

My L397 has been fanning for a good 10 days now, can't really see into the cave due to it's placement but shouldn't it be time by now? I get tired just looking at him, I don't think he left the cave for food either so abit concerned for him aswell. Any ideas?

L397 with possible popeye, what to do?

Will try to get a picture of it asap but have not seen the particular fish today, the eyes are slightly bulging and white. Anybody got an idea of what to do first? Water parameters are in order and rest of fish seems unaffected. I am considering just adding some salt or perhaps some anti bacterial m...

Re: A not so experienced pleco keeper chugging along, L397 for start!

Think this might be a pic of the alpha male of the group, if there is one. In my eyes it looks like it's showing signs of odontes and it's the only one camping a cave most of the time.

Re: A not so experienced pleco keeper chugging along, L397 for start!

Today I moved 5 L397s into a new tank(a downgrade size wise as they are now in a 75x40x40cm tank) but in return I think the layout is better and they are alone in the tank save for a small school of green neon tetras. Still don't know if one can determine their sexes for sure and it might aswell be ...

Lava rocks with corydoras any problem?

Setting up a new tank and considering using some lava rocks I found, they are quite sharp think they are called "loa rock". My concern is if the corydoras I am going to put in the tank could be at risk hurting themselves on the rocks? Going to have plenty of open space with sandy substrate...

Re: A not so experienced pleco keeper chugging along, L397 for start!

A pic from the feeding this morning, they look healthy to me and I hope I can be able to keep the rest. Picked up a leftover from the store so now they are in total 6. If I keep having problems with them I think I will just try to rehome the group and accept defeat. On a tangent, I am no more experi...

Re: Corydoras flashing often.

Could be white spot (ich). It's hard to see on armoured fish because it's under the plates I suppose it could be but they seem very active and the other fishes don't show any signs/spots either, I do have Waterlife Protozin at home but I don't know if it's compatible with corydoras.. if it is I cou...

Corydoras flashing often.

I am starting to lose my sanity over my cw009 corydoras. Quick recap- got 7 of them some months ago, during introduction to (cycled) quarantine tank one of them showed signs of what I believed to be hemorrhagic septicemia, it made it through the first couple of days, about a month later one of them ...

Re: Heater for pricy plecos

I don't know if I am in the minority but had problems adjusting the temperature on eheims, the wheel starts to get hard to adjust and by that point you don't really know what's turning so changing the temp a degree or two is a nightmare. So far I never had one malfunction thankfully but I am not so ...

Ive noticed! haha. Going to the LFS tommorow to see what they have available. You are truly a life saver(Getting input from more experienced keepers is at the very least reassuring), matten filter scares me somehow but guess it's just a filter pad and a powerhead behind it. Might still opt for spong...

I would be fine with spong filters (or a Matten) and a wave maker. Good luck, Eric Thanks, might look into matten filter do you by chance have any guide or something to recommend? Suppose it's kinda easy to make one yourself but hard to judge how porous filter media to use etc. Might still opt to j...

Still working on transforming my small apartment to a mini fishroom! :)) Next up is the second 120litre tank in which I am going to house the L397s. @bekateen Would you say that feeding live blackworms/having them in the tank is key to success with corydoras in general?
