As often, I have no idea what this is about but will dare a guess: is that you, Alex the Sidguppy himself?
If yes, why are you the one and only dude in existence?

Re: The final straw.
But most of us are okay being included in the general "you guys" and "dudes". Strangely though, my (perhaps erroneous) impression of a non-native speaker is that people (americans?) would often lump both sexes together in "you guys", as odd as it still sounds to my ear...

Stores worth a visit in/around Toronto?
Hi All, 1. I probably will be in Toronto this weekend. Could anybody name an LFS or two that might interest me personally? I am NOT interested in any 1-2 stores, no matter how big or wonderful their selection might be, but in a store that carries and sells large fish - trade-ins, overgrown fish from...

Could the 4 Synodontis granulosus merely distract the parties from being interested in fighting with each other and the Panaque focused on more "immediate danger"?

Re: PLEASE hide the smiley's....please!
I feel for Alex's problems but just wanted to state that, again, I, for one (or rather for two - see Jools' reply), am not bothered (which does not mean that leaving them as they are is a good idea because others are indeed bothered). Also, smilies make the exchange closer to having a face-to-face c...

Hi Sergey! Nice photos and wonderful fish. Sorry, I am not a pleco person but I am sure someone will get back to you soon. Welcome back! Re: PLEASE hide the smiley's....please!
I have no complain (yet). One minor thing is that I could not find the good old "shocked" smiley. Perhaps, simply more of them could be hidden behind the "view more smilies" link and only most common ones may remain visible at all times?

i want one of these tanks ! Hey, Syno-Kev! Check out that thread if interested. http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=30901 One of the easiest ways to go is inflatable above-ground pool (see the thread)! Real easy and cheap! A copy of my humble input: Hi Rob, a few DIY ideas: (...

Re: Massive uk catfish rescue centre
I kinda am doing the same thing here in NY state but on a much smaller scale still. Most people still want good money for their big fish that outgrew their tanks. There are good souls out there who just want the best for the pets they cannot care properly anymore, but unfortunately these are few and...

Re: Did I make a great or not-so-great sump???
Thank you, Naturalart! It depends on the number of inhabitants. When it used to be maybe 10 lbs total of fish, I did a 50% wc in 10-15 days. Nowadays, we might be pushing 100 lbs, so it is 50% 1-2 times a week, 1.5 times a week on average. NH3 zero, NO2 zero, NO3 5-10 ppm, pH 6.8 steady. Even after ...

Re: Safety of collected wood
I've been told before that I must pressure wash the loose parts off of driftwood. Do you find this excessive? Would just a reasonably thorough manual cleaning be enough to avoid a messy tank with floating debris, pieces of bark, rotten parts fallen apart, etc.? Also, Birger, are you not worried abou...

yeah, seashells can be sharp; they also can slowly dissolve and form very thin and sharp edges. i cannot quite make out if the substrate is all seashells or if there are some (coarse?) nuggets/gravel too. the water must be pretty alkaline, right? on the upside, the substrate probably houses a ton of...

I like the tank. It's unique. Sure functional but has something else about it too. I've never seen a tank with so many hiding places before - it's an equivalent of a high-rise apartment building
I am not seeing many cichlids. Is it scarcely populated? It looks big.

Sure fire, Alex- "should" does not equal "will". I think all Mats and I were trying to say, to use your analogy, that when a human being is born, statistics says it can be expected to live to 60-90 years these days. That is because LeeRoy was also speaking in general. Sure, Groke...

Re: Channel Catfish - Ictalurus punctatus profile
Cat-eLog indicates channels would hardly grow beyond 27.6". Yet, at some other ernest forums, e.g., aqualand http://aqualandpetsplus.com/Catfish,%20Channel.htm - see e.g., 7th pic down (could be a blue channel, which grow up to 65"??), people speak of 3-4 foot pet channel cats.

LeeRoy, if your lifespan guesstimates are for catfish, then Mats, is very right. Not that I experienced it firsthand, but from all that I've read and has been discussed on this site, cats can live for a very long time, 5-50 years, and most would in ideal husbandry conditions. Many bear witness to th...
