Re: Beginner Community Pleco Tank. Advise please.
Hi Ap3kzz, Welcome to PlanetCatfish. I agree that if you consider the L046 , you'd better make sure they're identified correctly. But you said you're thinking of something simpler, easier to take care of. Some hypans are pretty easy to take care of, but one rule of thumb many people follow is to kee...

What about that paper from 2016 which concluded that 333 and 66 are the same species? https://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=43573&hilit=L333 Yes, they may be the same species, but that doesn't rule out the prospect that they are different color morphs within one species (...

I agree with nvcichlids - I think it's an off-colored sterbai. Also, it appears to be smaller than your other sterbai. I think you'll find that it darkens up as it ages.
Please update us with new photos as it grows. I'm curious to see what it looks like as an adult.

Maybe female, but it looks too small to sex reliably from these photos. How long is this fish, excluding the tail?

Just found another article (http://www.academia.edu/download/33213777/zt01462p040.pdf) that says crown. Note, this latter paper mentions tooth crowns in Loricaria , not Hemiodontichthys , but the point is simply that the paper says the tooth "crowns" (not tooth crows) are sexually dimorphi...

I suspect that's supposed to be "crown" instead of "crow." See this article , Figure 13a-b show spoon-shaped male teeth, Figure 13c-d show pointed female teeth. The citation is: Isbrücker, I. J. H., & Nijssen, H. (1974). On Hemiodontichthys acipenserinus and Reganella depress...

Interesting to know that for this Clarias species the period when the gender is induced by temperature is known. For many species this effect is known or suspected, but I never read before when the period starts and ends. See also this post: Temperature-dependent sex determination in Clarias gariep...

Freeze dried plankton might be too big for their mouths. Is it? And no, I think your pencilfish will be okay if they are as big as the oil cats. I have some golden tetras in with mine, and the oil cats never bother the tetras.

This fish was being sold as "Orange Laser Cory". Is it a CW010? Could be. The colors in the photo are very brilliant, which might make it more difficult to confirm. Adult CW010 have the stripe going all the way down the caudal peduncle, to the base of the tail. But there are photos of fis...

I have six also. When I first bought them, they were sometimes active day and night. Now they are just nocturnal. I feed mine live black worms from a surface worm cone feeder (suction cups to glass at water level). Cool fish.

Oh, and no, I don't think breather bags are going to help the fish last 8 days. Some may make it, but the risk of mortality is very high, I'd think. Eight days? I'd think that's not a good idea. The fish will almost certainly be dead on arrival. Why not overnight the fish? It is possible: My LFS (in California) regularly orders fish from Czechoslovakia (take that for what it is) and from Germany, and in both cases the fish arrive faster from tho...
