Thank you all. First I will try the centrifuge technique, then the freezer. I have heard of the freezer trick Eric but this will be the first time I try it myself.

Re: Sick Syno help pls
You mentioned an Undergravel filter. That may be causing your nitrate problem. I would lift that thing and vac under it. Those filters can harbor poop a 'mile high'... well maybe not that high. But you could have a bunch of uneaten food or even a dead fish under there. Worth the investigation. Other...

Re: Starting a fishroom
Pictus are great 'day active' catfish. A fish I will own at some point. I like my tanks more 'natural' so I would ditch the square stuff and create some overhangs with some larger pieces of driftwood. And try to grow some anubis or Javamoss on the wood which could create some overhangs also. I would...

Thanks for the info Eric. I stumbled on this guy in the fish shop, hiding in about 100 Kuhli loaches. Love good surprises.

Microsynodontis polli?
Hello, I know these are not great pics but I'm believing this is Microsynodontis polli. Can anyone confirm? If anyone thinks different please speak on why. And if this is S. polli, are there folks here that can speak on any added experience around maintenance, water quality, etc., thats not in the C...

Re: My Synodontis E. Has white patches on his head
The white patch on the head combined with what looks like white dots going down the lateral line in one of the photos and you mentioning that the older cat also has spots (I'm assuming white and on the head) could indicate the beginnings of what is known as Hexamitiasis, "hole-in-the-head"...

In that case shouldn't the verbiage in the 'compatibility' section of it's data sheet be updated?

Hi Eric, same here. I just got the fish so I'm hoping those black lines show up a little stronger as the fish get more comfortable. Thanks for the response!

Rineloricaria sp?
Can someone help me id this fish. Closest I have gotten is Rineloricaria eigenmanni? The bars under the tail are faint and there's no spots on the belly. Hope someone with a little more experience with this fish can help?
Also, the more black and grey fish (male?) is completely blind.

Sure looks like it. The lateral and dorsal processes are very similar. Don't know if you have any other pics of the cat you want to purchase but the one you are showing definitely looks malnourished, just saying.

Re: Krytopterus vitreolus constitution
One interesting thing of note: the fish in the left of the picture has lots of black pigment all throughout its body, on the bone the notochord, the skull, eyes, etc,. It was the last of a batch separate from the others. I'm guessing its a wild caught fish. Opinions?

Re: Krytopterus vitreolus constitution
Thank you Birger and Eric. They are feeding well on staple and live. Still working on the frozen piece. They are still too small to swallow a whole 'blood worm'. They are moving about the tank comfortably and they will be going into a planted tank with a school of Hyphessobrycon robertsi tetras and ...

Re: Krytopterus vitreolus constitution
Hey Eric, good to hear from you. Yeah, I occasionally do a 2-day fast on smaller fish, so its interesting to hear you do 3 - 4 occasionally. I do know fish can go a bit longer (particularly larger fish) but I stay away from a lot of that since I haven't seen a lot of research on positive or negative...

Krytopterus vitreolus constitution
I've just taken into my care some K. vitreolus. I see them as so delicate and fragile. But since I've had them for about 2 weeks now in Q, they've survived ich, and eat just about anything they can fit in their mouths (which is pretty small at this point). That has been changing my perspective of th...

Syno's are pretty tough. I've never used Prazipro but your S. nigriventris are scaleless like your puffers so I would be very vigilant and cautious.

Yup, this S. eupterus, you didnt mention its length (SL) but with the barring on the tail it looks relatively young.

Re: Help with common plec - don't know what to do!
I'd be careful. You could easily love your fish to death. I believe this is a middle-aged fish by common pleco standards? its metabolism is probably slower and therefore can go longer periods with less food. Also remember fish biology is not the same a human biology. Relax. If the eyes haven't sunke...

Still look very young based on what I can tell for size. I would hedge a bet toward petricola. They look a little stocky from here. Can you get some side pics?
