Re: Pleco Identification

Original description A. bodenhameri. Compare to your fish as she settles in. -Shane So given that it's been merged with a. Martini, can assume that beckateen has it correct then? The description is pretty spot on. Dorsal does have a pale tip restricted to the first 2 rays, causal does as well. Dull...

Re: Pleco Identification

On the positive side you found something neat. On the negative, it is probably just one of the dozens (perhaps 100s) of undescribed brown Ancistrus spp in the Andes. Galvis et al (Peces del Catatumbo) show a fish very similar to yours and label it A. triradiatus, which is incorrect as this sp is fr...

Re: Pleco Identification

Awesome then! Hopefully my L240 doesn't mind a neighbor in his tank. Going to assume it will fare best in 76F-80F range given if it is those species, they come from a warmer area, so probably a safe bet to keep her higher 70s than in a cooler tank then

Re: Pleco Identification

Add after your edit, fish in the underside photos in store are of different individuals. The wider mouthed one looked more female to me while the other certainly had more bristle coverage classic with a young male. But one does have spots, the one I brought home does not. I will get a belly/mouth vi...

Re: Pleco Identification

Hi Miss Noodle, Here are your last 6 pics, all laid out with same orientation and scaled to help viewing. Looking at the fish, and seeing the spotted pattern, this is certainly not Ancistrus sp`cucuta` . It is more reminiscent of Ancistrus martini , which has a spotted body and a wide head. That sa...

Re: Pleco Identification

Cucuta, which is a town on the Colombia/Venezuela border, seems like an oddly specific common name for a store to use. There are several brownish Ancistrus recorded from drainages in that area. I would take a hard look at those fish. -Shane I went back, got some more photos including belly shots an...

Re: Can adolf take the heat?

Short term should be okay, but watch for signs of trouble, increase oxygen, and change only gradually would be my best advice. Short term "heat waves" happen, but no matter which option you choose there are risks. Personally, for ich in the past, I have gone a half strength dose with Malac...

Re: Pleco Identification

The first is one of the common plecos in the genus Pterygoplichthys, maybe Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps . But most of these are farmed and some of them can be hybrids. The second is probably a common BN, unless the seller went to great trouble to import cucuta BNs. Cheers, Eric They do import odd fis...

Pleco Identification

Didn't purchase, but seen these guys at the store

1: labeled a common pleco, is a juvenile. Lovely coloring on this guy
20210929_142913.jpg
2: labeled cucuta pleco, but to me looks like standard BN plecos. None were on glass to see bellies though.

Re: Hemorrhagic septicemia, any tips?

Nitrite poisoning can cause these symptoms, you say these are new fish in quarantine? Possibly a small cycle spike adding the new fish and the stress of acclimation has left them vulnerable to the symptoms of it, but the weaker one(s) got hit harder. And now that it's bouncing back better, it's like...

These guys have gotten darker and tbh the more they develop, the farther they look from my original group of elegans, AND my elegans want nothing to do with them either. Red flags for a separate species when the others won't bother with them. 20210829_225002.jpg The amount of red is also very distin...

I believe O.macrospilus I have some more photos I can post, theyre a cute bunch. I did grab a couple more, but one looks different than the others too. Darker, smaller, different shaped tail blotch. Blotch isn't on the tail fin like the others, this one the blotch stops before the tail. USER_SCOPED...

New to otos, but been wanting some for awhile. Store finally had some that looked good, nice round bellies. They only had the 3, will be grabbing more. Maybe? Re: Hoplosternum Punctatum Spawn!

Hes been growing out in my corydoras eques tank until he was large enough to compete better for food with the larger adults, and he's done fantastic with them, but has been the only hoplo since his siblings all died. Re: Hoplosternum Punctatum Spawn!

Hi all, I have them in a container of RO water with a pH regulator to keep pH at 7 same as my tap so it's not a major change when they are transitioned back to my tap once older. I think that might be your problem. If you have hard tap water? I'd just add that to get to a conductivity value, I use ...
