Re: Corydoras bilineatus

Hi, Corydoras sp. "San Juan" is to my knowledge only a trade name (like deckeri cory in Colombia) not used for only one species or form but a mix. No one in Iquitos will keep those separated acc. to locations and when those are stressed or juveniles they look probably anyway same. This is ...

Re: Corydoras bilineatus

Hi Daniel,

I can remember that many years back there were in GB some alleged Corydoras bilineatus which might have been descendants of the stock of Joachim Knaack but I don't remember if this was confirmed or not.
If so, I assume Ian or Hans-Georg might know more...

Corydoras bilineatus

Hi, I'm quite sure than some if not all picture in the data base are not really Corydoras bilineatus . They are all additionally labeled as "San Juan" cory which is the trade name for Elegans group corys in Iquitos, Peru. I think it's named after the district San Juan Bautista south-west o...

Hi,

Corydoras bilineatus is a species that you would not expect to find in the pet trade, so I would exclude this species, there are many forms that are much more likely...

Hi Jools, I recommend to add the catching location for my picture as well, considering the huge distance to the type locality and Eschmeyer is listing only: Distribution: Upper Madeira and lower Amazon River basins, Bolivia. Re: Corydoras IDx2

Hi,

I would tentatively also say C. napoensis and C. elegans.
CW008 looks also similar but to my experience this is unlike many other species in the elegans group quite uniform in colouration and has a more regular striped pattern.

C. nanus can be excluded by minimum 100% ;-).

Hi, well, I kept C. melanotaenia quite a time ago and the extent to which they show the yellow colour can vary significantly and I do see yellow ventral fins which is not known for "standard" C. aeneus (which is not C. aeneus in sensu stricto) but there are definitely other forms of the ae...

Re: Corydoras aeneus?

Hi, it's definitely not C. aeneus in sensu stricto and I would not even call it C. aeneus at all but C. melanotaenia even though the fins are not so bright yellow to exclude all doubts... There are so many C. aeneus look-a-likes in South America. One thing is clear, it's a really nice shot of a nice...

Hi, you will never find C. nanus (Suriname) or C. bilineatus (Bolivia) in ordinary pet shops, if you ever should be so lucky to find them in specialised shops they should be very much more expensive than other Corydoras . Both species are coming from countries from which there are no regular exports...

Hi, another thing that IMHO is definitely wrong is this: common pleco (Hypostomus plecostomus) Hypostomus plecostomus is not at all common (in the hobby), but the so-called "common pleco" is regularly mis-identified as Hypostomus plecostomus which is more or less not available in the pet t...

Re: A new Corydoras species (Callichthyidae) from Rio Juruena basin, Brazil

Hi, the authors already stated that this species has features that don't really fit into the lineages, the snout is rather too long for lineages 6 & 9, their conclusion was that this feature would be rather typical for lineage 8. The tentative assignment to lineages 6 or 9 was based on pectoral ...

Hi, Corydoras sanchesi is extremely unlikely, those come from Suriname and there are barely any fish exports from there. The two mentioned species however, can (most likely) be excluded. Unfortunately the most important detail is not visible in the pictures. It wou...
